Who's Dan? and what has he been up to? Preview of Ninja-ja!

Backstory time!
It was about five years ago that I decided it was time to get a real job. I ended up getting hired at a warehouse that some of my buddies worked in. It was there that I meet a young fellow named Dan. He seemed smart and very into video games. His brother who also worked there introduced us when he found out that we both had played World of Warcraft at some point. So Dan and I started talking about games and I was already into making games by then but had never finished anything. So I started throwing ideas at him that he could quickly and efficiently break down and destroy. He could tell me exactly why it wouldn't work. So for months I tried to come up with a something that even he couldn't find a fault to. Well I did come up with something, and finally got his attention. Also turns out that he was a graphic artist, so it was a perfect match.

So we both sit down and bounce ideas off each other until we reach an idea that we can both agree on. So far we have released one game together. While I have branched out and made 3 separate smaller games on my own, this next game, Ninja-ja, is our second game together.

Usually I come up with the game concept and we team up together to flesh out all the details, but one day I went to Dan and said hey why don't you come up with a concept. Dan already had one in mind even before I asked, and that is Ninja-ja.

Ninja-ja is designed to be played on a multi-touch device (most smart phones). You use two fingers (usually your thumbs) to guide your weapon where you want it to go.

Let me know what you guys think, in the comments below.

  4. Thanks I hope to have something for you guys soon.

  5. @Sam- Pop me an email or a message on the site when you want to discuss the chat brainstorm.

  6. looks good, i think it might be slightly hard to tell at like what height the swords are coming in at since you aren't looking exactly straight at them. But I'm sure you will figure it out and make it work! Good luck!

  7. i like it is a very good idea

  8. I'm sure you can amke a very good game game out of the Nin-Ja concept, but it doesn't seem to me like something we haven't seen before and/or not something i would be playing more than once.

    that's my honest opinion.

on the other hand, your pokemon game really impressed a lot of people and we feel it is something that takes the tower defense concept a step forward.
problem is you can't sell it couse it's licensed...

  9. You are going to get C&Ded if you don't stop this donation shit for Pokemon T&D. It does not fall under fair use, and flaunting what Nintendo tried removing from the Android marketplace and trying to profit off it will only speed up the process.
It's a good game with a lot of potential and I'd hate to see it happen - I've seen it before. Don't let morons try to convince you that it's legal - it's not. You will be C&Ded soon, and if you'd like to dispute the legality of it with Nintendo then they'll be glad to let you mount expenses in a civil court against them.

  10. I love the concept.the sound effects and music is awesome.! Good Luck.

  11. I love your pokemon tower defense, but the problem is once your down to the last level(that doesnt take very long) you have to wait a week to get another 10 minutes of gameplay! And the anticipaton is killing me. Honestly I think you finish alot more of the game then countinue to come out with more updates. Please do this so i dont have to wait so long to play your amazing game an you can count on my donation. Thankyu and Good Luck

  12. It looks great Sam I'm excited to see how it turns out. What was the first game Sam and Dan made?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hey sam I like the new game but are you going to be able to keep up with two games at once? I think ptd should be in full motion befor a new game comes out. Just opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that you should focus on PTD. With the updates that are necessary to keep people into that game, its going to be difficult to maintain two games.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I do agree the PTD should be updated, but I would actually rather see Ninja-ja. It's probably beneficial to you to do ninja, because that can go on phones while PTD cannot.

    ReplyDelete
  16. PTD is in fact on phones. It just cannot be downloaded from the Android Market.

    ReplyDelete
  17. *yawn* another ninja game

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Anonymous - *yawn* another anonymous person with something bad to say <3

    ReplyDelete
  19. and have you noticed the haters are always anon? they not brave enough to face the music? pmsl

  20. Seems fun for 5 minutes. I wonder how you will keep it entertaining.

At this point it looks like a 13 in a dozen game to me ...

Sorry, but you wanted honest :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think it looks very entertaining. I think most games on phones are just meant to be played every once in a while so I don't think it needs to be soo crazy that people are hooked to their phones. Hahaha :) you already got one of those man. :) PTD!!! WOOT WOOT. anyway... I look forward to that game coming out :)

  22. While there are legality issues surrounding PTD, it is a far more interesting concept than this ninja game. If you are prepared to walk the thin legal line with PTD, go all for it. If it gets too dangerous, you could consider making a similar game with different characters within the legal limits (whatever those may be). Though I am sure you have both put your hearts and minds into this new ninja game, people see them as a dime a dozen. Stay creative.

  23. Nice concept! Maybe it's a cool idea to implement 'power ups'. For example 1/30 knives is a special item, which gives you back some health or something other useful. Some special items could be:
    - heath up
    - larger stick/sword for 10 seconds
    - invincible for 5 seconds
    - slow down the incoming knives for 5 seconds
    - overshield
    - etc.

    But can also be evil:
    - faster incoming knives
    - extra damage
    - dizziness (drunken mode :P)

    Just some thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  24. When is it coming out cause i rlly want to play it now

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Tim- That is a really good idea. Maybe you have to have money for the power ups. That's just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @sam I sure this game is gonna b awesome but can we just do update for PTD that Wat yur fans really want right now since yu got us started already please

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey. Sam I have a question. Why is it when I play PTD exit the game then go back to PTD my profile isn't saved. BTW I play on Newgrounds and i have my own account. Please reply back. Thanks in advanced.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Notter - Thank you for being honest, I think Ninja-ja is something that is a little more fast paced, something that you play a little bit here and there. It doesn't have the same kinda grand scale that PTD does.

    @HellRa1SeR - Thanks!

@Daniel - I did a poll asking people about this very thing, and the majority wanted something weekly.

@NandM - The first game we made is called Etheater, it's more like a tool to make small movies using props, avatars etc. It's on newgrounds and kongregate if you wish to check it out.

    @Anonymous - I will find a balance :)

@Jared - I plan to do both I think something like PTD screams to be finished. but I appreciate the comment :)

@Tommy - The honesty is appreciate it, trust me I can take the feedback and I welcome it. It def needs something to make it stand out more.

    @Julian - Thanks!

@Anonymous - PTD with different characters just isn't PTD, we plan to pursue Ninja-ja some more, but if it doesn't work it doesn't work and we will stop working on it.

@Tim - Great ideas! Yea we were planning on when you block the attacks that you would get health back, and that some special ones would give more health back. Keep it coming!

@pokemonluver - plan to throw out an early alpha version soon, after this coming ptd update.

    @Max - PTD is still a high priority :)

@Mick.sabs - Yea about that... the game doesn't save as often as I would like it to, will fix for next update :)

    -----------------------------------------------
I think Ninja-ja has some unique gameplay that the video can't really show, it's more about how you are moving the weapons, and I hope once I get the apk out that you guys will try it out and find out for yourselves. :D

  29. I found a bug today. I was playing in browser on Chrome, and was doing some grinding in route 3. My entire party was leveling from 15 to 16, and on the 6th level up(as well as 3rd evolution), the game froze. My party was: 1 Pidgy, 2 Rattata, 1 Charmander(evolved to Charmeleon), and 2 Nidorans(which evolved to a Nidorino and Nidorina). I tried again and the same thing a happened at the same point, which is when my 2nd Nidoran evolved to a Nidorino, which leads me to believe that this bug is either due to having to many evolutions on the same map, or the game freaking out that my two Nidorans evolved in to different pokemon.

  30. @thanks Sam good luck with everything

  31. I was going to donate until i figured out you had other projects beside Pokemon tower defense.

Not to be mean but finish one project before starting another.

I am worried that pokemon tower defense will never be finished =(

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Anonymous - Actually in this case having more projects helps keep PTD alive.

  33. I think that ninja ja has a very well thought out concept. I hope that there will be some sort of story line in it since everything is better with a good story. Another idea is for when the game is at full release. Have a multiplayer mode where you can throw the darts at the enemy and block. You would have some sort of points that goes down as you throw different types of darts toward the other person. And they would go up as you block a certain amount of them. Just a few thoughs after I read the post.

  34. I don't think it will spark as well as ptd, but it would be a pretty neat app to play when you're bored.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh Sam, I have one more thing.
I can imagine the perspective can lead to disorientation. In my opinion the gameplay would be a lot better when you make marks on the screen, of where you have to hit the knives. Like little crosses or X's. Just like with fifa11/pes2011: You see marks on the pitch of where the ball is going to bounce. Know what I mean. But maybe I'm wrong, since I didn't play the game yet :P

  36. Looks interesting to me, but I personally don't like all the blood. Nothing's really dying, so all the blood just kind of turns me off. This is just me personally: I don't like playing very bloody video games, although a little bit can be OK. Good luck with your games! (And I love your PTD!) ;) ~S.G.

  37. It will not let me go past route 3 it says coming soon

  38. me encanta, una idea muy original, i divertida seguro aunque creo que se podria mejorar graficamente

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi sam, I think you should devote to advance in the game pokemon and then go to ninja.

    ReplyDelete
  40. PTD is sooooooooooo awesome and i wish you would make the stages and updates come faster hope you good luck on PTD and NINJAJA though it looks like it would get boring after you beat every level one just being honest not hating love PTD!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good work, Keep it up :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I really like the idea, and I think it looks cool. I believe mixing this and PTD will help you improve as a programmer, which should be your main goal in free flash games like this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. why dont u put this as an extra mode on PTD and if u finish without getting hit u get a 1 time special or something?
    idea? :P

    ReplyDelete
  44. you should try and finish PTD before you start working on ninja-ja.

    ReplyDelete
  45. it looks hard but fun i would like to give it a try.
