New update is out now, quick post and I will be leaving for the day.

Where can I play?
I think everybody out there has their own idea of what a perfect (but doable) weekly update would be. So why don't you let me know, but don't email me (I have plenty of emails!), post it on the forums http://s4.zetaboards.com/poketd so that everybody can see and comment on your individual suggestions (The comment space bellow is too hard to sort). If you guys come up with a good (doable) weekly update I will try to make it happen.
Just a couple of rules:
  1. You can suggest a story level but don't suggest a storyline since I already have that set.
  2. You can suggest a challenge mode and design one if you want.
Let me know about level cap, new moves, tms, new achievements, and even tell me which shiny hunt pokemon I should give out.

Let's make it happen, let me know what you think of this update and let me know what your perfect, but doable, weekly update would be.

  1. I think the next challenge level should involve placing pokemon in certain spots like a water area where you could put water pokemon. You'd be able to catch red health pokemon like this last level. You'd start out with 1-2 regular pokemon that can go in the regular spaces but not really anywhere else and the challenge is impossible to beat without catching new pokemon to place in different spots.

  8. Okay, I'm wondering if this is just me... But I'm having a REALLY hard time with the new challenge level. Specifically when the Geodude swarm runs out. I just can't get past all the Gloom. It just seems like a bit much. [Even with the Charmander.] *shrug* :/

  24. Nice update, the challenge level took a few tries.

    May I recommend for the pokédex that the pokémon that are available have there slots coloured or something so we would know which ones are obtainable in the current version? I think everyone would like that, and it would help those who wants to catch them all, especially now there is a pokédex.

    Either way, Great job with this update, by far my favorite in a while.

    I really liked the new challenge level. As to the next level, I think that another Route 3 type would be great. You know, a good place for training. And I liked what Axel said about the next giveaway: Make it something brand new.

  30. I think the achivements should be less luck-wise and more like protecting all the candies in Cerulean Gym while having all the pokemon you used in the level being level 30 or lower.

    For the next update(s) I would like to see the following:

    -New Story level after you beat the gym you head towords the next one. You run into a trainer of sorts and you get to battle his/her pokemon, but like Misty's Gym there are other pokemon that you can catch (preferably new pokemon not yet seen).

    -The TM's and Special Relearner Exclusive moves. This would be a grand addition to the update (sooner than later).

    - 1-2+ bug fixes a week (from the list)

    -A Challange level that after you beat it you got a mystery gift code. When you enter the code it will allow you to find a pokemon (not yet obtainable via normal Story level) in one of the levels. Once you find it you cannot find it again unless you beat the Challange level again. The pokemon would remain constant for everyone though.

    -A Shiny pokemon search, but instead of giving it to just Playtowerdefensegames.com, you can send different ones to different sites. And once you type in once sites code no other codes from any other sites can be used on your profile that week, and each week you can just cycle the codes to different sites in order for people to obtain different pokemon.

    -The pokedex showing the sprites of the pokemon when I click on the pokeball/pokemon.

    -A way that you can delete 1 profile instead of wiping everything. (without starting a new game for the profile)

    I cannot really think of anything else off the top of my head. I might make a layout of the Story mode I had in mind at a later time, if you feel its worth it. Well thanks for the game!

  34. Trainer battles for the next level. Each wave is 6 different uncapturable, semi difficult pokemon that have already appeared in the game. Idk what direction your going on in the story but it could be the nugget bridge or on SS Anne. New pokemon optional im good either way.

    About PTD... May i suggest a "stack purchase" feature? I mean, at the moment when we purchase our items (Stones or TMs) the game give us the option to imput how many we want. That would pretty much speed up the "buy-back-buy" process, in my opinion.

  44. For next week the relearn moves should be the # 1 priority since they have been put off for 2 weeks now. Then i suggest put up another poll of the other 3 options that we had for this weeks update and put in the winner of that one. Lastly next week should have a new story level with some new pokemon for us to catch. Thats my idea for next week.

  45. it seems to me that having 4 moves on a pokemon is pretty pointless when you only really need one. what about instead, when a pokemon attacks, it uses all four moves in order, and when it gets to the 4th move it starts over. It would add more strategy to the game i think

  48. For the next map, there are two directions we can take, we can go North of Cerulean City, or we can go South. North will lead you to Bill's house, which, for the purpose of this game, I think is a little unnecessary, SO let's just assume we go south.

    This game clearly takes place years after the original Red/Blue SO, we'll assume that guy whose house was broken into is not having anymore trouble with that.

    so south we go and the first thing we see is a Daycare center.
    A daycare center would be a wonderful addition to the game, where pokemon left there will gain xp per kill you get on any level.
    also you could implement eggs too, which could work like magikarp or abra.
    start them out at level 0, give them one move. umm.. *shake* or whatever the hell. and give it some sort of cooldown like 600. once it gets to level 1 it evolves into whatever it was sposed to be.

    but.. then again, I can't condone this becaauuussssee Sofar the game has been only 1st gen pokemon, and that's part of the appeal this game has to me. Unfortuantely, some first gen pokemon, such as pikachu, have been given pre-volution stages, like pichu. and a pikachu comming out of an egg would be uncannon and a pichu coming out of the egg would be saddening.

    the simple workarround:
    the same way they did it in red & blue, Only one pokemon in the daycare at a time.
    and let's not forget, it costs money to withdraw them, so start saving your pokedollers.
    BUT, that doesn't need to be implemented just yet.

    THE NEXT LEVEL WILL BE
    The underground path.

    NOW; I've got an idea for this level.

    In the underground path, Team rocket is trying to transport their rare candies from cerulean city to Vermillion city.

    Let's say they have 10 waves of 10 pokemon, each pokemon is already carrying 1 rare candy and trying to get from the north side of the path to the south side.

    in total, that gives team rocket 100 rare candies.

    Our goal for this map is to save as many rare candies as possible;

    so we set up our 6 pokemon and we kill. every pokemon that dies, drops its rare candies, since all of the other pokemon already have candy in their hands, they cant pick up anymore, so 1 kill = 1 point.

    so then, let's say that you don't win the level unless you save atleast 90 rare candies. or 90% if you go with different numbers.

    the pokemon we should be seeing in this level are as follows

    Oddish (R)
    Bellsprout(B)
    Pidgy
    Mankey
    Meowth

    Later on, when we get the good rod, we'll see Goldeen.
    and with the super rod we'll see Shelder & Krabby.

    This map would take the place of route 5 & route 6, since it connects the two.

The challenge level was intense, and I thoroughly enjoyed earning that pokedex. Good luck and may you continue improving upon one of my most favorite games, and easily my favorite tower defense.

  52. you should add a level of day care that you have to defend the rocket team that are displayed eevee 4 with the blue bar 3 with the red bar and are level all 20 , are 20 waves , at the day care you have to protect 5 eggs on the left and 5 on the right is a limit of level 45 and a challenge level that 10 waves of Onix and Geodude and you catch Pikachus and eevee with red bar

    1) Pokedex Feature - Pokemon Overview: Click a Pokemon's name and see which Routes it's available in, it's height, weight, type, it's actual sprite image and maybe even it's Red/Blue "cry" from the games.

    2) Pokemart - TMs:

    TM 14, Blizzard.
    TM 22, Solarbeam.
    TM 25, Thunder.
    TM 26, Earthquake.
    TM 29, Psychic.
    TM 38, Fire Blast.

    3) Story Level - Cerulean City:

    Story: Upon reaching Vermillion City, Brock runs into the Gym before you can catch him. Elsewhere, Misty confronts Ash about whatever. Team Rocket is locked outside Vermilion Gym and unable to get in. They take out a golden coin to try pick the lock (which doesn't work, they're stupid afterall) when Joey, Maruto and you show up. In cowardice they say they'll protect the Gym from you.

    Map Overview - 4 Open Spots:

    Conditions To Win: Faint/KO/Kill/Defeat Team Rocket's Pokemon circling you. You only have 5PP per move for each of your Pokemon. When all 5PP from each Move is gone, your Pokemon "faint from exhaustion" and are recalled and unable to be placed back again (which is why you have 2 extras for back-up when this happens).

    The four corners are where your Pokemon are placed. The lines going around them is a circular track which Team Rocket sends out an Ekans, Weezing, Sandshrew, Geodude and Onix, all of which have high cooldowns for their ability to take away 1 PP from a random move.

    Upon Victory - Story Ending: Team Rocket "blasts off" for the first time, Joey gets Pikachu to Thundershock the door's circuit locks and opens it. Lt. Surge waits for you inside like an evil Madman laughing, asking you to come in.

    End Level.

    4) New Pokemon - Jigglypuff:

    At random, Team Rocket will drop their "Golden Coin" onto one of their Pokemon. KO that Pokemon first and obtain the "Golden Coin". Second time you play through the level, a single wild random Meowth will run out to pick up the Golden coin inbetween your Pokemon (The [GC] on the map, coming from above to the bottom of the map in a straight line).

    The thing is, programming is actually really hard and time-consuming. You may have noticed that it takes Sam the entire week just to get an update together? It's not because of laziness. He really needs that time. Not to mention that every time he updates PTD he has to send it to half a dozen sites and make a downloadable version. Considering that, it's unfair to ask him to put out another update so soon.

    heres my idea for a new challenge level that should have you start out with 3 level 10 ratatas and have to defend about 10-15 waves of level 10 geodude, onix, and pikachus that are catchable except for onix. Have the ratatas only know quick attack and sand attack, the geodudes only know tackle, and the pikachus know thundershock and thunder wave.
    If you win this challenge level your mom gives you a pair of running shoes to make the waves of the game go faster once you get them.

    How about making it possible to trade more than one pokemon at the time? You simply place the pokemon in a "box" and get one code for all of them together. This would be very practical if you're going to move a group of pokemon from one profile to another.
    Also, how about adding "records" in the achievment section? Examples: "Pewter Gym: Pokeballs saved: 3 out of 6." , "Cerulean Gym: Rare candies saved: 8 out of 10." Just a thought, hope you will consider it :)

    wait till row 6 put 2 o3 3 explosive geodude but be carefull capture both golems, put them in the middle then wait till row 9 untill charmander appeares, capture the 3, dont let em evolve use firefangs and win. tip put scrren middle so you can see pokemn coming, try to always have geodudes

  84. Sam, here's an idea for a concept added to the game once you've gotten far enough into the production, to add a little more tradition to the gameplay:
    Everyone has been wanting the level to increase(which you have done) to 36 so they could have all of their pokemon evolved to the maximum. But originally, players' pokemon wouldnt even listen to them at a high level until the player achieved the badge. (lvl 30 for the 2nd badge, 50 for the 4th badge i believe, etc.) So what if you made it so the players' of PTD werent able to level up until they received the right amount of badges? Sort of how the experience bar would fill up but the pokemon wouldnt actually level up until your updates. It might make it more frustrating but it would be traditional. And obviously at this point, youd have to wait until you had enough story levels for it to work. But maybe you could keep the idea in mind?

  88. The game is awesome so far but can I request a new storyline stage where we can train our pokemon kinda like Viridian forest and route 3? It takes way to long to level to the level cap now. Also the new pokeballs you're planning to release, if you're not planning it already (since it sounds like this is the case but just requesting anyway) can you make them so its possible to catch pokemon before their hp turns red, its kinda hard to catch low level pokemon when you have to make their hp red and all our pokemon one hit them all, i missed 2 shinnies so far because of that

    Ok, first you get geodudes and place them there to take out zubats

    Then catch golems and geodudes and take out the onixs with them

    Then Catch the three charmanders and when they evolve press stop evole then they learn fire fang whick will kill the grass pokemon at the end.

    You are right but also wrong. Pokemon above a certain level would ignore the players commands on occasion, but ONLY if they were a traded Pokemon. Self caught ones would always listen to the trainer regardless of level. That said, I don't see this being added as the game doesn't seem to track the OT, and it's would be more of an annoyance than anything that adds to gameplay.

  99. Hey Sam and Dan, Great game so far, it took a while until i got it right. And i was wondering if the Pokedex are gonna have more feutures, so you can see the pokemons you have seen, but not yet caught, and see some more info about the pokemons.

  100. It doesnt appear that i had a shiny caterpie on my pokedex. It evolved into a metapod and appears shiny metapod on the pokedex but not caterpie. Also i had caught before, but released, shiny zubat and geodude in the wild. Doesnt it count for achievements?

  103. For the next level, you really should do nugget bridge/route 24.

    There should be no new catchables, as.. there are no newer catchables in red or blue on route 24.

    have 16 waves, with a high level trainer pokemon as a boss.

    seeing as nuggest bridge is team rocket ran, they can hypnotise the local pokes to try and get past you as well

    this time, dont make it about rare candies. make it so if you lose, you lose a big chunk of your money... money is really... just useless. i have nearly 3 million myself and would like to find some way of making it less... useless. early game i can remember it being so scarce, but as soon as VF2 ans mount moon 2 came out, everyone suddenly had stupid amounts of money.

    However, i really think you should get the TM's and move tutor moves done. ive wanted those for a long time.

My idea for a new challenge level is that you and Joey meet Gary at the top of nugget bridge and he is battling the trio( articuno, zapdos and moltres) and he ask's you if you could hold them off while he go's to get help from ash. You agree and you fight them in 3 waves First articuno then moltres the zapdos. Only have Charmeleon LVL 26( moves are fire fang, tackle, smokescreen and Dragonrage) Golem LVL 26( moves Earthquake, rockblast, rollout and mudsport) and Gyarados LVL 25 (moves thrash and water gun). If you beat it you get a mysterious egg( it hatch's eevee/blue and gastly/red). New pokemon are Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Eevee, Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon( evolves within mt moon at LVL 20) and umbreon(evolves with moon stone). Also TMS( Earthquake, Fireblast, Hyperbeam). HM fly( 20000 pokedoller's).

    Love the new challenge lvl, I struggled for awhile, but then I found out how to easily beat it.

    I love how this game has so much in it.

    Whatever the next level may be I want it to be a challenge, with high levels and many Pokemon to catch! maybe you could include something with the day care, but I don't want to get involved with the story board. I also liked that idea you did in Mt. Moon 1 with the boulder that only rock pokemon could be on. if we have more of that it would bring more challenge for placement.

    I also can't wait till more items come out in the market such as TM's. :D

    On another note, I wish that you aren't trying to rush updates to be out on Saturday or Sunday. I would be more than happy to wait 2/3 weeks for a super big update with multiple things to look forward to.

    First of all; first generation pokemon only, No espeon or umbreon.

    Second, giving blue eevee and red gastly is completely unfair.
    both pokemon are available in both versions. also, Gastly doesnt show up till lavender town and eevee isn't till saffron, so that doesn't line up right.

    third, I wouldn't put the trio in just yet, because if we kill them, we can't catch them later. and we definitely can't catch them now, it's much too early.

    fourth, What exactly do we need fly for?

    It takes place at misty's gym. There is only one rare candy. And you start off with 6 pikachu's that know only thunderbolt. and there is a WHOLE bunch of water pokemon, only water pokemon. about 40 waves or 30, or 20 waves.

    1) Include the new TMs/HMs. Do as many as you think are do-able since I dont exactly know how much effort that takes
    2) Do the "Move only available with re-learner" thing
    3) Include the Trading Center

    4) and IF you have time add one new pokemon or new pokeballs or something

    #4 can obviously wait till next next week but I think this week should be only focused on the little things that have been delayed and one new thing(trading center)

  124. i think there should be a challenge level where you use given pokemon to attack the wild pokemon, and you try to catch as many pokemon as possible. you will be versing someone like joey and whoever catches more pokemon wins, lets say this is an effort to create a small army that you will use agaisnt team rocket.     I think the pokedex is kind of pointless but for the next update could we have 5 things?

    1. New training level like vf2 with a possibility of new pokemon-it could be nugget bridge
    2. The Tm's in the store which have been put off for 2 weeks
    3. the relearner exclusive moves that were put off
    4. Either the different pokeballs of the speedup button- a poll for people to choose maybe
    5. whatever bugs you might have time for afterwards

    There is a giant Nidoking rampaging through trying to get prof. Oak. The level will look like this:

  139. I loved the pokedex! It's great that it loaded the pokemon I had already evolved.
    But it has a little issue. If I had a shiny pokemon, but not the normal version of it, when I catch a normal type, it appears as caught in the pokedex. But as soon as I evolve it, the evolution appears and the basic disappears

    If I haven't been clear, let me give you an example:
    First of all, sorry about my english, I'm not very good with it :P
    Before the pokedex, I had a shiny beedrill, caught as a weedle. Now, I've got the shiny mark on the pokedex for weedle, kakuna and beedrill. Till there, everything is perfect. but there is a problem afterwards.
    Before I got the shiny one, I also had a normal beedrill, and I released it when I got the shiny one. But the pokedex only has the shiny mark. Well, I didn't think this was a problem, as the pokedex shouldn't learn what it hasn't seen. But now, I caught a weedle again, and I evolved all the way to beedrill. First of all, I realized that the pokedex only had the normal mark for beedrill. So it appeared as if I had never had a normal weedle, or kakuna, when I had clearly had them :P
    Apart of that, as soon as I released beedrill, it desappeared from my pokedex.
    Can you fix this? I'd be grateful :)
    And again, still knowing this bug, great work on that pokedex! :)

  159. For a level I'd like to see Bill's lighthouse, at night preferably, with a giant, uncatchable Dragonite as a boss with perhaps Krabby appearing as a catchable Pokemon. Just as an episode reference really but it would introduce another Pokemon not obtainable until much later and introduce maybe one or two catchable ones.
    The St. Anne (or a similar ship) should also appear in at least a level. Maybe there are other trainers on board and you have to work with them to battle Team Rocket/the enemy at that point in time. Maybe NPCs send out Pokemon using different slots on the map (maybe a way to show Pokemon not yet in the game) leaving the player with only two or three slots to send Pokemon. The enemy could send strong leaders of a certain type and the player could have to send Pokemon better at fighting that type as the NPCs would be weaker, having to deal with the wild attackers. Maybe there could even be two or three paths the player has to manage, if that's not too difficult to program, making the level quite hectic. The Diglet cave should also be a later level as well. I'm also looking foreword to the Lavender town level(s) and Sabrina, wondering how that all will be played in the game.
    For a challenge level's prize perhaps the Pokeflute could be obtained and make Snorlax catchable in a level. For example on the level where he appears (only once due to his rarity) he appears but can obly be captured if the player has the flute. For another challenge level the player could have to go into a computer for a chance to catch Porygon. Maybe the player would have to battle viruses that can only be hurt when attacked by a certain type of attack like fire, water or so on. Could be a chance to embellish tower defence game cliches as well as make a level for a Pokemon that probably shouldn't appear naturally in the wild.
    I liked how in Mt. Moon there was a spot where only certain types of Pokemon can go and hope to see more of that. Maybe when we have to cross water most fire types can't be sent out onto water spots, maybe with Charizard and Moltres being exceptions due to the fact they fly. It would add a more tactical element to the game and involve types more.
    Those are some of my ideas but as long as we keep getting story levels I'll be happy. While this play through will be easy due to all the grinding time I'l looking foreword to starting a new profile once the game has been properly released to get the true feel for it.

  171. I think you should work on a more efficient storage screen. One pokemon takes up a lot of space and if you have a lot of them you have to flip through several screens. Perhaps more of a list type of storage.

    One level like route 3 to get you to Vermillion city, and then for the gym battle, do a bit with Lt. Surge on the SS. Anne. and have the gym battle there with Surge also possessed by the evil Mewtwo!!!!

    have a level at 5 times normal speed. the reward, an 8(or 16, whichever you use) bit motor from pokemon snap that speeds up levels.(useful for training and such)

  177. cont. on 10:51 story mode should be where misty comes to her senses and will give you a shelder and a seel to level up and train which will be used on articuno in my challenge level and on challenge level you should defend tiny pokemon eggs that are weak to that type of pokemon back to story mode then you should battle Lt. Surge where his little gym people each send out 5 electric pokemon like voltorb one side and magnemite on the other then on the last wave Lt. sends an Electrode which will attempt to clear the feild with a Thunder attack like rock throw with onix and when his electrode fails you think your done but no then he sends aa Elactabuzz just an idea

The gaurd gives you her six pokemon, You use them as energy to get back the damage, and you use Whatever pokemon (Probobly wild) to defend it from getting damaged?     great update, but i found a bug. whenever i get to wave 12 on challenge mode, the game freezes, its right when a gloom comes out, i have a 26 firefang charmeleon, level 25 charmander, lvl 19 golem x 2. but when i press to evolve charmander, the game freezes. but the wave number goes up to 20 then does nothing. any help?

    the goal is to get 1 eevee to evolve into each of the the evolutions (reclaim BIll's lost pokemon collection)
    you would be able to choose which three starting points to send your eevee's in. Once through the teleporters, it would be teleported to the back room where it would grap a stone and evolve, you would then be able to use that evolution in your arsenal along woth eevee who only know helping hand. The enemies would be kadabra's/alakazam's using confusion, and some using teleport/aly switch to randomly move the enemy around adding an element of chance(not quite sure how that would be done) (open to suggestions)
    either that or just 4 kadabra's in the middle slots using confusion each with a different specific targeting,

    once jolteon, vaporeon, and flareon are obtained then you win,

    the prize could be an eevee (satisfy everyone who wants a new pokemon (shiny would just be 1/1000), and or advance box or bill's advanced storage system (from suggestions)

  187. Small bug: Curelean Gym Part 1. When you beat it once and play it again and lose, it doesn't show the fail screen; it just continues and allows you to win.

  188. I believe we need a Pokemon with False Swipe already...
    If all of my Pokemon are overleveled right now,it makes it pretty hard to capture things like Rattata from the first level

  189. I figured out what I think causes my bug posted shortly above. When my pokemon attacks an enemy who has candy and then moves off screen, and is killed by the attack and drops the candy off screen. The candy is not counted as taken, but cannot be picked up and counted as taken. Thats just my guess, because it happened again and I noticed my Riachu firing thunder balls off screen.

  190. I SUGGEST that Charazard/blastoise learn flamethrower/hydro pump both 100 attack this is because Venasaur knows petal dance 100 attack. LOVE THE GAME BY THE WAY :D

    I was thinking ... why does your game doesn't have a logo? it would be nice to have one and see it everytime you open and play the game.

  195. Mud shot cannot hit flying pokemon but still making their speed lowered. It is not supposed to be, right?

    Also, there should be a preloader in case anying suspecting it not loading while it is actually loading.

  197. The shinies seem more like a chore than an achievement to me. Possibly focus on specific ways to complete levels and pokedex completion?
