Hey! Nice to see you again! Like all Mondays it's time for the weekly progress blog here at Sam and Dan Games. If you haven't read last week's blog I suggest you read it. I talked about the ending of PTD 1 and the last update to come to the game among other things.
So keep track of my progress as I finish the game I will be posting updates here on this blog post.
Just like Hero Tower Defense every week I will talk about PTD 2 and Creature Universe (ANPO) leading up to the eventual pre-pre-pre alphas. Then just like PTD 1 and HTD we will keep updating the games until they are finished. This is just our way of keeping you, the player, involved in the process of game creation as much as possible. So instead of waiting a year and a half to see PTD 2 and longer for ANPO we will talk about them and show you our progress along the way. PTD 1 took a year and a half to make, imagine if PTD 1 just released today?! The game would be totally different I would think, a lot of your feedback was incorporated. Also without you guys I wouldn't have pushed myself so far to get it done as fast. So I really think this method will work for us here, what do you think?
Pokemon Tower Defense 2
So last week I talked about a few new mechanics that I thought would help add some new freshness to the game. Most of you really liked the ideas so I'm very happy with that and will make plans on how to add those in. This week I want to talk about something that some of my favorite Tower Defense games have that PTD 1 didn't have. This "thing" that I'm talking about is Talents!
Introduction "Trainer Specializations"!
I also love talents systems in games, and I think it will make a great addition to PTD 2. So let me talk a little bit (for those who care lol) about how this idea came to be and my different thoughts on getting to where I am with the talents now. So while looking at some other games and their talent trees I thought it would be amazing to have some sort of talent tree in the game. My first thought was "okay every pokemon will have a talent tree!" Then I was like.... "NO WAY!" having a talent tree on every pokemon, while interesting, would take forever and could prove to have many issues attached to it, including: overwhelming players, making the database even bigger and take longer to save and load! So then I thought how about if the trainer can specialize in a certain type of pokemon, almost like a gym leader! That sounded really cool to me.
So the way it works is that you will have a trainer level. You level it up by playing levels in the game. At the end of each level you will get experience points for your trainer. The higher and more difficult the level the more experience points you get. When you level up you will get talent points that you can assign on any of the specialization trees available. There will be a tree for each type of pokemon in the game. Each tree will give you bonuses not only for a particular type of pokemon but for all your pokemon. For example a fire talent might be like "Increase all your towers' damage by 5% if you have a fire pokemon in your party.". Talents will also unlock Special Abilities (I talked about these on the last blog) only accessible from talents.
So now that you read about Trainer Specializations, tell me what you think! Now onto Creature Universe!
Creature Universe (Project ANPO)
Last week I talked about the creatures feeling alive and dynamic. This is something that I want to show up in every facet of the game. This week I will start introducing the battle system. Note that this game is in a very early stage. You are pretty much getting the notes that I'm writing down as I come up with them. Something like a battle system is really hard to explain but I will try my best here to paint the picture in your head. Okay so for a long time I thought it would be very interested to make a game that when you told your "avatar" to do something he wouldn't do it automatically. Essentially your "avatar" would think about it first before doing it. Imagine you have a warrior character but his "courage" stat is low. So if you tell him to attack a dragon, he isn't going to run in there! While this is a good idea in theory... it probably isn't that much fun. Once you character has enough "courage" he might just do everything you tell him to. So what's the point?! It wasn't until I started thinking more about ANPO that I realized "Hey! I might bring this idea back!" but while I can bring part of it back, it needed some heavy tweaking.
Essentially you will control your avatar (your human trainer) and he will issue commands to your creature. Then your creature will try its best to perform your command. So what does it mean to "try its best to perform"? To me this means that creatures have limits! In pokemon a creature has some limits in the form of Attack, Defense, Speed, and PP. These are fairly straight forward, but I want to add some new stats into this game. What if your creature had a "Reaction Time" stat? I want the battles in this game to be in real-time instead of turn-based. So reaction time would be how long it takes from your command going out to the creature performing it. So lets say your creature is going to tackle the enemy but the enemy is about to throw a hyper beam kind of attack straight at you, and you the trainer select the dodge + left command! Depending on your creature and the timing of your command your creature will dodge or get hit by the enemy's attack.
Also a big change from pokemon would be the attacks! The moves in ANPO will be done by chaining a series of commands. The example I used above "dodge + left" is an example of this chaining. While just saying dodge (maybe to save time) will make a creature dodge in a direction that the creature chooses (probably random or based on something else) you can be specific and say "doge+left" or "dodge+front" etc. Each creature will have a set of commands that are standard for all creatures. Things like "dodge", "run", "attack", "jump" are examples of a few of the standard commands. But then bird like creatures will have "fly", "flap wings", "peck". Using a combination of these will result in different attacks! You will also be able to save custom combinations so you don't have to keep selecting them over and over.
So I hope this gives you a small view into what I'm aiming for. You don't have direct control over your creatures but you will be issuing them commands. As you get to know your creature more and more you will learn the timing for when to issue commands to be able to battle effectively. You will also be able to train your creature to increase its speed and reaction time.
I hope you guys have a good week, and as always let me know what you think on the comments below!

Never again shall I not be first!
ReplyDeleteyou were the one that made this blog. you were always first.:)
Deletenaw last blog guitar guy or somthin beat him lmao
Deletewow Sam, your talent idea is great!!!
Deletebut... i've got an idea. Do u remember the "classic" and "advanced" modes??? u could implement these modes in PTD 2 as different difficult levels, so the same level would have different amount of exp. points depending on the way u finish that (if u remember that, in classic mode all moves had 60 power or less and 100% accuracy, except recoiled moves; however, in advanced mode all moves has it's original power and accuracy, can be evaded and also have recoil, so classic mode is harder in levels in which enemy pokemon have lots of HP, and advanced mode is harder in levels in which your team can be damaged with powerful moves)
It also could be a great idea having a way to reset your skill points (something like a reset button), so u can redistribute them as much as u wish (obviously paying a little amount, 50k for example).
And finally... it could be good having talents to increase the exp. got by your pokemon, or the incoming money that u get when u defeat an enemy; it would reduce the time u waste farming gold or leveling up your pokemon (specially if u need a certain talent tree and team in order to pass every new level)
Second i think \õ
ReplyDeleteSecond indeed
Deletei am still having problems getting on
ReplyDeleteme too
DeleteRead the FAQ page for more info on what might be your problem.
Delete...
ReplyDeleteWill you be working on the legit PVP multiplayer before starting other projects? Or is this something that got pushed back to PTD2?
ReplyDeleteThat will be pushed back for PTD2, mainly cause the way I made the moves in PTD 1 doesn't really allow for multiplayer (without some crazy out of sync issues).
DeleteAnd I was so close, too.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I really like the talent idea. It seems like a great thing to incorporate and will add great depth to the game. I even have started thinking about what types to specialize in.
Here's to the final stretch of PTD 1! Cheers!
~Will
Yeah I want to make them all really good so it will be hard to choose >.<
Deletepsychic of course 6 mews
DeleteActually, I was thinking, maybe you can make them all really well, bad, that is, until you level them up all the way and also, will there be a limit on leveling? Or will it be like you can only level up to level like, 25 and then you're stuck with your choices. I honestly don't like that. Final question, will you earn exp every time you finish a new level or every time you complete a level? I think you should make it so that the amount of exp received depends on how far you got in the level and you should receive more the first time you beat it then the other times. Thanks ^-^
DeleteWhat will the NPC trade be for, I want to prepare myself :).
ReplyDeleteYou trade a Slowbro for Lickitung
Deletethanks :) also your game is amazing I love how you really took the plot into your own hands :) !
Deletebut on the red version it should be golduck sam^^
Delete2nd? Looks Good Sam kind of a ramble on ANPO :P but the PTD talk sounds good!
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to explain the ANPO thing without pictures or letting you play it. But maybe if you read it a bunch of times it might make sense lol
DeleteI love your ANPO idea. But would a game that innovative, complex, etc even be able to play fast or even at all on a regular laptop/computer? What if you put the game on the ps3/360 and got some game developer to make the graphics amazing and stuff like that? I know I would buy it, and it will get your names out there alot more. Idk, im just thinking something that big would be VERY difficult for two people to do while doing two other games at the same time and trying to keep the quality high
ReplyDeleteThanks! The hardest part of what you are saying is money. I do want to make a kickstarter page for this game once I have a nice prototype that will help me generate some money to be able to give it some good graphics. Computers will be able to run it just fine :)
DeleteI think the trainer talents, whilst good for other games, might not work for a pokemon based game, as it's a bit far removed from the games... I also think it could make levels far too easy / hard depending on what you've leveled up... So not great...
ReplyDeleteIt is removed from the original games, but I do think it is something that can make the game more interesting and help you be different from another trainer that has your same pokemon. I'll put up a poll on this just to see what the overall view is on the talents.
Delete10th! xDDD
ReplyDeleteI like the talent tree idea also can you add shiny quest in PTD2
ReplyDeletethanks! I do want to add more quest into PTD2, whether they are for shiny or shadow I haven't decided yet.
DeleteSam maybe you could add the shiny quests for legendaries. they have to be really hard if you do this, but let me know what you think about the idea ;)
DeleteBoth of course !?
DeleteOritama
I like the sound of trainer specializations, especially as I love me my Poison-types.
ReplyDeleteCouple of questions, though.
1: Were you serious when you said that you'd be removing the possibility of encountering the legendary beasts from PTD? If so, how much longer until that happens?
2: Finding a legendary beast is just like finding a Shiny, right? By that I mean, the alert pops up and stays until clicked, and the Pokémon automatically has a red HP bar, allowing for an instant capture, and the speed is automatically brought back down to x1? I just want to be certain whether I could possibly have encountered one and somehow missed it.
3: What's the exact wording of the alert that pops up for a legendary beast? It doesn't really matter, may even seem like a stupid question, but I want to at least know what it says, as I'm more than likely never going to see it for myself.
This question is asked way to many times..
Delete1. Yes, they will be gone in the final update. (The next update will have a different mystery gift)
2. Yes on all accounts.
3. Replace Shiny with Legendary and you have it.
PTD1:
ReplyDeleteIt would be better to fight the elite4 and mewthree in 5 stages, just like the gyms, it episódio be targeting boring to defeat them all at once.
PTD2:
What about a special pokemon after clearing each tree, maybe a shiny
PTD 1: I will see how it plays out when I'm making it, but thanks for letting me know your preference.
DeletePTD 2: While giving out a shiny is cool it lowers their rarity, I think giving out cool abilities that you can use in game are much cooler :)
when will you finish the levels i really want the birds
DeleteAs you can see I'm at 0% for mostly everything, as I work on it I will keep updating it. When they are close to all 100% you will know it will be coming out soon.
DeleteHi Sam, just a question and two suggestions. For the question, are we going to get Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Frenzy Plant in PTD 1, or will those wait until we get to Blackthorn in PTD 2 like in Heartgold and Soulsilver? For the suggestion, could you make it so that you could possibly put talent points into more than one type, but the total talent points would stay the same? Meaning, you could invest all your points into Fire type and have extreme boosts to all fire type pokemon/ other additional boosts, or you could put it into Fire and Water types, where both types get moderate boosts but you get mild versions of two powerups for the whole team. The second question is more of a request, but before PTD 2 comes out could you mention all the boosts that each type specialization gives? For example, if Rock specialization boosts defense for all towers while you have a rock type pokemon on the field, could you make that clear ahead of time so people who don't want the defense bonus invest trainer exp in other areas? Sorry for the long post, and thanks for the great game!
ReplyDeleteMathemagician
You will get those moves in PTD 2.
DeleteYou will be able to spend points in different trees like you mentioned. Also you will be able to see the description of all the trees before you put any points into them so you can choose which one you want. Thanks!
Just what is ANPO
ReplyDeleteANPO is basically a my version of a creature game similar to Pokemon but with some major changes.
DeleteI'll try to compile all the info from it in one place but in the meantime you have to read past blogs for more information on it.
sam you should play pokemonlake(pokemonlake.com) and pokemonomega(pokemonomega.com)
ReplyDeleteI don't have enough time >.<
DeleteIt's okay Sam, it sucks anyway :P
Deletethat's sad. but maybe when you make an extremely hard story level then people wont complain about update because some barely beat it
Deleteor after you finish adding the levels. people will be two occupied with this next update
Deletetrainer specialization... just like pokemon world in warcraft.
ReplyDeleteNICE!
never played that but yeah I guess lol
DeleteHey Sam,
ReplyDelete1)
First off my never ending post about an app. i have been asking for you to make an app on the app store and i have yet to get an answer.
2)
How will the birds' levels play out (zapdos, arcticuno)? will you have to beat the league or will you have to beat them before the league, or possibly will they be separate but require all badges?
3)
Well since the day it came out I have been trying to beat the Cinnabar Gym. I have tried all kinds of strategies and combinations especially the ones or vids and guides. I was hoping there was some way you could adjust the strength and health of the legendaries to be a little lower and implement that before the last update. I don't know how anyone else could have won the level cause I have ALWAYS been able to beat the level right away except for Cinnabar Gym and Saffron Gym.
4)
Whowillwe get the shiny lickitung from and on which level?
5)
Great work on the game. Happy one year anniversary of great programming! Can't wait for the game to be inished and the time has gone by too fast and i plan to takea look on the guy who made a ptd 2 game himself.
-Minnow
1. I don't own the pokemon trademark so I'm not allowed to put a game in the app store.
Delete2. You will need all the badges to reach their level, but you can get them before the elite 4.
3. I like the health they have right now, you really have to have a decent level on your pokemon in order to beat it.
4. NPC trade that will be added on the last update.
5. Thanks!
I can help you with my Shadow Suicune, but you have to trade it...
Delete1)
DeleteSo you can put it on android but not on iPhone? That is stupid. I really want the game on my iPhone but I haven't ever tried the game on my iPhone so maybe it will work.
3)
The Pokemon I've been using are all above 90.
4)
I meant like what level the npc will be on
5)
Your welcome!
-Minnow
about 3 just get a seaking with horndril on lvl 96 and set it on attacking the one with most lives and you can kill moltres+entei when they show up but the accurary is only 30% so you should take a pokémon who knows a move so he can get entei and moltres to sleep like sleeping powder en put it beside your seaking and after you beaten the bosses you can use hydro pump on the other pokémons so good luck ;P
Delete@anon 7:56.
DeleteNo, it won't work, and it never will. The glory of Android is being able to sideload apps. We don't have to go through the AppStore for everything. Sam releases the .apk, copy to SD card, and install like a computer.
Not to mention, it require NO extra effort from Sam. All it takes is an app called Adobe Air, which allows flash games to be played on the phone. Apple doesn't allow Flash.
Hey sam, just wanted to ask a few questions:
ReplyDelete1-Why is there a Bird level which can only be played in the red version, and none only available at blue (no problem at all, i play red version :)....maybe i should't write this....bah, anyway)
2- are you making all pokemon special abilities? you said you'll do one for all but only done for 10 up to now and the game is being finished :(
3- i got a shadow entei on the mistery gift, is it good or common? more than a normal entei?
4- keep up the good work!
1. Only Electabuzz will be red only not Zapdos.
Delete2. Because I wasn't planning on adding them since the beginning I didn't program it to work with them. For PTD 2 I will add them all.
3. Congrats! It is very good but I believe Normal Entei is rarer.
4. Thanks for the support!
Sweet ideas! I kinda of thought ANPO would be boring but... I always wanted to tell your pokemon to dodge. It felt stupid letting them just stand there :P Keep up the work!
ReplyDelete~~~~Blazing Shadow
Thanks! I hope it is not boring >.<
DeleteSam, will there ever be auto-level up? Like u can just check a box, and your pokemon are automatically leveled up when on a training level? Love the game by the way!
ReplyDeleteYes this will be in PTD 2
DeleteOkay, thanks Sam!
DeleteSam Otero try to make the update faster
ReplyDeleteGotcha
Deletei'm interested to see where you take this and how successful it will be
DeleteI agree, you need to get the update faster, you can't make us wait this long.
DeleteYeah, anybody have a clone machine?
DeleteAt least start it Sam! :'( WAHHHH! *cries*
DeleteTake your time Sam!
DeleteYou could always call Bill. I reckon he knows about cloning ;)
DeleteGive Sam a break. He created the best game ever, so don't rush him
Deleteare you going to release the levels all at once or are you going to release power plant when your done with it? i think you should release when your finished so that we have time to train the zapdos or whatever legend you do first.
ReplyDeleteall at once
Deletehow do the comments work?first time
ReplyDeleteYou post one, I read it and if I have time I will reply :D
Deletesam have you ever read pokemon adventres
ReplyDeleteYes! I read the first generation part of it.
DeleteI'm interested to see where you take this and how successful it will be
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm also interested in that :)
DeleteThank you for the game, I hope you create a trend and I keep seeing this kind of good stuff appearing. Now, I got a question: Why do we only see Sam in the "Sam & Dan" blog?? Have you abducted Dan??
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
Dan writes the Hero Tower Defense blog every thursday..
Deletehey Sam, just wanted to say great job on the game. found your game originally on funny-base.com, played it once and was instantly hooked. Talk about PTD 2 sounds like its going to be one heck of a ride, but i look forward to playing it and enjoying it with many hours; just as i have on the first PTD. Wish you luck on the ending bro, make it one for us fans to be proud of.
ReplyDeleteP.S. you need to start checking your trade requests again. lolololz
Thanks a lot! I'll handle those trades this week >.<
Deletei have 3 to 5 ideas for anpo
ReplyDelete1. i think their could be terrain advantages volcano for fire type
2.some monsters should fuse or transform
3.moods, happy obeys but weak attack, angry is strong but dosent obey, it would depend on how much you train them or feed them
4.sidequests that infuence or affect the plot
5.monsters would have feelings torwars each other
sam is the shiny rate still be 1 in 8,000 or.....WHAT?
ReplyDeleteHi Sam! Answer me this question please:
ReplyDeleteWill be able to get Kyogre or Groudon in PTD 1? Because if it's Red/Blue version Kyogre maybe will be catchable at Blue Version and Groudon at Red Version.
Thanks and keep going with the good work!
No you won't be able to get them, gotta save some pokemon for later :D
DeleteYou might want to get the Hyper Potions out a little early, too.
ReplyDeletePerhaps..
DeleteI just wanted to tell you that I don't like the talent tree idea that much. I think in any other game it would be cool, but this is pokemon and there is nothing of that sort in the games and one of the things I like about this game is it is like playing pokemon just in a different format. (Not to mention if I had a type specific team it would be either dragon or ghost type and as of Johto there are not enough of those types to make a team of them.)
ReplyDeleteBguy7
So you like the talents or no? I can't tell heh
DeleteSorry I meant that I don't like it because it is too different.
DeleteBguy7
Dude did you forget lapras and snorlax.
ReplyDeleteNope, check out the FAQ page to see where to find each pokemon.
Deleteok thanks
DeleteThis is the third mystery code that has told me I'm using an expired code. If I change one of the letters or numbers to something else it is wrong so idk what is going on :( I feel like I'm missing out
ReplyDeletemake sure you are playing v6.4.1 for the mew code
DeleteIs the talents points like pokemon nature ex(bashful,Adamant ect)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't really say that is a good comparison.
DeleteGreat idea. The only thing I liked more on the Anime compared to the game is that the battles were (obviously) not turn based (or it would feel stupid), and also combining attacks from different pokemons, not only to battle, but to do pretty stuff on contests. That's pretty nice, great idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks I do look at the anime a lot of examples :)
DeleteAre you ever going to add the move 'Draco Meteor' to PTD?
ReplyDeleteNot for PTD 1 but very likely for PTD 2
DeleteI don't quite agree with this idea. You've been giving all generation moves in PTD1 as long as any of the pokemon in PTD1 can learn it, but now you're ignoring some moves? It makes it feel like you don't care for PTD1 anymore and just want to move unto PTD2.
Delete*Googles Draco Meteo*
DeleteHmm nobody learns it from TM or leveling up only Move Tutor. I never added any Move Tutor only skills to PTD 1, hence why it won't show up. I do want to move on to PTD 2. But I didn't skip any particular move just because.
I love the idea of a talent tree it could be like fire=more damage done, water=little hp boost, rock=less damage taken and so on
ReplyDeleteuhmm.. Sam, i was wondering what happened to brock, jessie and james, pikachu manny and pikachu sammy? its been a long time since their last appearance.. pikachu sammy and manny's last appearance where at viridian forest1, for brock i think it in diglets cave, and for jessie and james is in the mt. moon.. what happened to them..? im just wondering..
ReplyDeletethe pikachus won't show up, they are just hanging out in viridian forest but Brock, Jessie and James will get their chance in the spotlight :)
Deleteso sam why bother giving them name if they will not going to appear again?
Deletesam here's an idea... to get to power plant one must have a surf hm.. and for victory road, a strength.. just to complete the hm.. and for fly maybe a secret stage because fly isn't a required hm its just used to traved fast.. oh i know the secret stage would be like chasing mewtree, who is trying to escape to jhoto, to finally be defeated but you will fail and that would be the start for ptd2.. what do you think..
ReplyDeleteInteresting but I think people want to defeat him before PTD 2, that is just what I think
DeleteSam you did not add Mist for lapras even now......I even sent a tweet...
ReplyDeleteAnyway I really like the idea of talents... Maybe we will become gym leaders later on ....who knows?
Also did you regular mew to the game ? Or will it be added now becoz I dont see it in the blog post (my eyesight is not that weak I am sure).
DeoxysMaster
I have Mist on my list but the way I programmed the moves Mist can't work correctly so I'm not doing it until PTD 2. Becoming Gym Leaders sounds interesting.
DeleteNot yet I haven't added Mew to the game.
I love the idea of talent and whatever you said
ReplyDeleteby honnerell
on the talent tree, im just wondering so if u put up fire, that means more damage -- would it be more damage for fire based pokemon (flareon) or fire skills (fire blast).
ReplyDeleteThe example I gave just said all your pokemon do more damage if you have a fire type pokemon in play. I would think that I would favor pokemon over skill in any case.
DeleteHey umm, can u make if a shiny pokemon appears we have atleast 5 seconds to take out pokemons because once a shiny horsea appeared to me i killed it :(
ReplyDeletecool update
ReplyDeleteanyway Ive had this idea for the rest of ptd1 if the power plant and soafoam island aren't a part of the story line and we are only going there for training you can maybe have a sort of path thing for the level select where you have a choice to either go train further at those levels or go on to victory road(not all in one level though)so on the level select screen it might say choose a level and have soafoam island, powerplant and victory road vertically and you can choose one of them and horizontally linear after victory road is indigo plateau and unknown dungeon/cerulean cave(as they are in the order that you would need to unlock them;victory road -> indigo plateau -> unknown dungeon)
Sam you can get this update done quick! and by that I don't mean rush through it, just work on it more often, if you drag it out for about 2 months I will go insane:(
ReplyDeleteGreat idea on the whole talents thing, I would like to see more of "5% Damage Increase to Fire Type Pokemon" instead of "5% Damage Increase if you have a Fire Type pokemon in your party", doesn't really matter though.
PTD 2 Ideas :
I think you should make more storage options, like tabs where you can put your shinies, same for shadows etc. for the more organized people like myself :P
Maybe have some items in the shop like boosts for pokemon or something? It would be nice to have more pokemon items and maybe items you made up in the store so we have something more to do with our moneys, especially rare candy
and Please have more polls on what the next mystery gift pokemon should be!!! I miss those alot, maybe you could have a range anywhere from 2-10 options on the polls sometimes. Please :O
That's all for now, Thanks Sam
I so agree with you except the talent tree thing, and i hope the new mystery gift is't shadow missingno. That would just be stupid
DeleteIf you look at the anime for example, i'm pretty sure we'll get a togepi egg at the end of PTD1, or for completing the pokedex. Am I right??
ReplyDeleteNot sure about this.
DeleteFirst original post on samdangames for me =D yay !
ReplyDeleteI have to say you guys are doing a really great job ! I really enjoy the games !!
I want to express my excitement about incoming releases and i have a lot of ideas/comments, and i'll probably post them later.
Right now i want to say that the victini dual attack is really nice, i would love to see other similar "combo" ! It would be a interesting way of introducing the charm of dual pokemon battles :) !
Keep up the good work !
-Oritama-
I do like the combo aspect of those moves, I'll see if I can do more of that on the sequel.
DeleteHi Sam,I hope u ever read this.I have a suggestion for PTD2.
ReplyDeleteYou have a building(maybe you unlock it in challenge mode?)and in that building, you compete in beauty contests against the CPU or Other trainer.
What do you think? Can you make it possible?
Ivan
I was never into beauty contest a lot but I'll do some research.
DeleteWill we be able to catch Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the update!
Please respond Sam...
Don't get pissed cause this isn't Sam, but anyway, in BOTH versions we will be able to catch them all.
Deleteyes
Deletethank you for responding
Deleteit would be cool if u add surf and waterfall on ptd
ReplyDeleteIt could also be non-elemental related
ReplyDeleteExample: High level trainers can level up skills like +exp%,+shiny%(very little),+gold obtained%, exc...
yes talents like those will be added :)
DeleteSam ANPO SOUNDS SO STINKING COOL MAKE IT FASTER I WANNA PLAY IT SOON oh and please make pokeahtlon if ya don' know what it is check out this please thttp://www.psypokes.com/hgss/pokeathlon.php sorry i am so demanding
ReplyDeleteI'm working on it lol
Deletei want more avatars for seasons!(i`m norwegian)
ReplyDeleteim norwegian too!
DeleteSounds good, but i don't think it will work well unless there will be a way to train in every "talent" from what i can tell you want us to pick a type of pokemon we like the most and that will be our talent? I.E Electric types, what happens when we max that out or no longer wish to be an electric trainer?
ReplyDeleteSeems like you are on the right track though, i just forsee a lot of un happy people if there is no way to change or at least swap...
arent u adding a secret way of finding mew 'cause i would like to LP this game on Youtube when its done
ReplyDeleteIn the poll so far, more people can't read than dislike the idea for trainer talents. I think that says something.
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteIt'd be nice if you could just incorporate the sequel into the current PTD game. Like the first story about Mewthree is book 1 and the sequel is book 2 and you can start in book 2 regardless of your progress in book 1. This way you wouldn't have to trade all of your old pokemon to the new game etc.
ReplyDeleteIt becomes more a problem with file size, so I have to have two separate files at least.
Deleteok i know im going far ahead with this question but if PTD 2 is Johto, then does that mean there will be PTD 3 for Hoenn, etc. ?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I will make it that far honestly.
DeleteAll these ideas sound great!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSam I was at the Google Chrome webstore and look what I found http://i.imgur.com/WZLUe.jpg did you know anything about this???
ReplyDeletenope >.<
DeleteSam can you make it so u can save the game on ur computer to save time to load and to save space on the sever
ReplyDeleteYou can but then you can't use the pokemon center since that requires you to have your latest data on the server.
DeleteHey Sam Do You Think If You Try Really Hard And With The Effort You Always And Constantly Put Into The Levels Will You Be Able To Release The Final PTD 1 Upadte By This Monday Or Rather The Full Realease This Moday And Sof Realease This Sunday??? Cause I Really Want To Know What You Have In Stored For Us. And Also When Are You Gonna Give A Release Date Of PTD 2 Cause I Cant Wait For That As Well Hope The Final Update Is This Sunday Wish You All The Best Thanks Also Sam!!!!
ReplyDeleteYOUR BIGGEST FAN PIRATEKINGLUFFY
I won't happen this week >.< unless you want like one line and one wave for each map
DeleteI Really Think You Shouldn't Type Like This Because It's A Little Annoying When Someone Tries To Read It
DeleteXD
I have a very big idea for the talent tree! Dual-typed pokemon would get both type benefits. Each type would have the same layout as this:
ReplyDeleteIncreased damage 1 (+5% Damage Dealt) --> ID2 (+10%) --> ID3 (+20%)
Increased resistance 1 (-1% Damage of that element taken) --> IR2 (-2%) --> IR3 (-5%)
Increased health 1 (+5% HP) --> IH2 (+10%) --> IH3 (+20%)
I think you (Sam) will get the idea.
I would want more variety in what the talents would be but yeah some of them would be how you described there.
DeleteSam this is my idea for a talent tree
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/h4KnK.gif
I was also thinking that each box could have 3 level s
Level 1 is: +5 for 1 stat for 1 trainer point and +5 for all stats for 5 trainer points
Level 2 is: +10 for 1 stat for 5 trainer point and +10 for all stats for 10 trainer points
Level 3 will be: +15 for 1 stat for 10 trainer point and +15 for all stats for 15 trainer points
The +stats is nice but I would also like to do some other interesting bonuses that go beyond stats.
DeleteBut! There will be some that will just give you +stats just not every single one.
DeleteI put in the weekly code to get the mew for the Mystery Gift on my account, but it said that the code is no longer available. I'm pretty sure that it is this week's code. Can anyone help?
ReplyDeleteYou're probably not using the latest version.
DeleteHey Sam, due to computer problems, I can only play your glorious game on my android. However, although I'd rather download it, mediafire doesn't work on my phone, and the rapidshare file has been removed. Do you have any other way I can download it to my phone?
ReplyDeleteTry downloading it on your computer first then put it on your phone from your computer.
DeleteCan you add the rest of the abilities?
ReplyDelete-Thanks Bjf
The way I programmed the moves in PTD 1 a lot of the abilities won't work which is why I stopped adding them. But they will be there for PTD 2.
Deletehi sam a couple of questions
ReplyDelete1.are you releasing the levels all at once or together?
2. when do you thin.k you will finish?
3.are you putting new pokemon on your trading account?
1. yes
Delete2. about a month
3. yes eventually lol
Yes what?
Deleteare you serious about a month?
Delete1)you said that you put a poll of the possibility to remove the "hacked version sign" from a pokemon, maybe for 1 snd coin. when will this happen. maybe you can think about using gamecorner coins for it so that everyone has the possibility to do this.
ReplyDelete2)oh and continue your great work. i can not wait for the final update and catch the birds and mewtwo!!! but take your time for this update, so that you can make it an epic ending
3) by the way, will it be possible to get the shiny version of the birds and mewthree in the game or will they only be obtainable with snd coins? [ i hope not ;) ]
4) you said that you will add siny quests in ptd2. here is my idea. how about putting shiny quests for the legendary pokemon. they should be really hard (definitively much harder than the quest for shiny voltorb), but you would give the players the chance of getting them and to reward themself, if they "work" hard for it!
what do you think about my ideas?
Your biggest fan from Germany
Hey Sam. Wait, if we on accident kill zapdos and/or articuno will we be able to go back in that same level and try over again or once we kill the legendaries it's over(which would kinda suck...)?
ReplyDeleteI think Sam already said killing them wouldn't ruin your chance to obtain them, but even if it did you can just close out of the game without saving and you could try again to capture it anyway.
Deletei don't think you catch them in battle
Deletei like most off the ideas but i didnt like the adding PP part cause i think that makes it harder
ReplyDeleteBut Draco Meteor is a move tutor skill, apply-able to Dratini, Dragonair, & Dragonite. I understand it is move tutor only but you already have move tutor available in PTD1, not sure why you're making this contrast, but if you really don't want to add it, it's up to you, it's your game, which I and many others enjoy very much.
ReplyDeleteHere's a suggestion for PTD2. You mentioned that you can transfer pokemon back and forth from PTD1 to PTD2, etc.... I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I have a good suggestion how what should be done though.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned starters will be level 1 in PTD2 which will coincide with my idea. Have it so that you can copy over your data from PTD1 to PTD2 (copy, not move). Doing this will reset all transfered pokemon levels to 1 but won't impact PTD1 save.
To prevent duplication, have it so that using transfer option will transfer to all 3 profiles (each profile will be transferred individually). If you choose to transfer again, it'll wipe out ALL data so it won't be a good idea to do so again. Once transfer, you select the version type, starter pokemon (only reason this is mentioned is because PTD1 makes it so you cannot have a starter if you already have pokemon in your roster, unless you program it differently to prevent this, picking starters should go along with transfers), and name for each profile (up to 3 profiles depending on how much you transfered).
This method will prevent any loop hole or exploits and I think it's much cleaner, what do you think?
Another suggestion is allow the abilities to be chosen (especially since it wasn't really introduce in PTD1). This will make the game more strategic since a lot of other things are already by chance. Choosing abilities with cost a large amount of money.
Also, I really hope you don't add IVs and EVs to this series, as it's complicated enough. The trainer's abilities will probably be using something similar anyways to passively increase stats.
I asked you this in the e-mail but got no reply, I'll ask it here and hopefully it'll help others know the answers too.
ReplyDelete1. For MissingNo., you mentioned that the stats for it are as follows:
Type - Normal, HP - 33, Atk - 136, Def - 0, S.Atk - 6, S.Def - 0, Spd - 29
The only thing I have an issue with is the S.Def stat, which should be 6 instead (source - http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Missingno, Special stat stands for both S.Atk/S.Def), did you make a mistake? and will this be fixed in the next update as minor as it may be (for a more polish game)?
2. a. Can MissingNo. learn all TMs? (since the source only mentioned Gen 1 as MissingNo. is only found in Gen 1)
b. Even though MissingNo. attack stat seems to be pretty high, it actually doesn't seem very high in the game, a bug?
c. Does MissingNo. gain STAB from normal moves?
3. Are all Shadow non-evolved pokemon attainable in Game Corner including Mew, Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Victini (Mewtwo in the next update)? Are they all the same chance of obtaining?
4. Will you be making the other available HMs such as Surf and Waterfall? As it doesn't make sense you give all gen moves or at least most of them (some are still missing). I would think you want to polish PTD1 as much as possible before moving to PTD2 and adding other features/mechanics. I'm sure a lot of other people will agree as well (do a poll/question), it just feels incomplete without it.
5. Will you be releasing other gen pokemon related to gen 1 (such as Crobat, Blissey, etc...) before PTD1 closes? (I have been saving up extra eevees, golbats, etc... for just this situation) perhaps as bonus contents/challenges, it'll be a nice way to end this before going to PTD2. But it's understandable to not include it until later versions of PTD.
6. Will you be making more info available on the screen to our Pokemon (such as stats, abilities, nickname, etc...)?
7. Rain Dance (no info in skill description)
a. Increases Water damage by 50%
b. Decreases Fire damage by 50%
c. Decreases Solar Beam's damage by half.
d. Allows Thunder and Hurricane to always hit.
e. Moonlight/Synthesis/Morning Sun heals 1/4 instead of 1/2
Is this all correct?
8. Sunny Day
a. Increases Fire damage by 50% (verfied partly by description, doesn't say how much)
b. Decreases Water damage by 50% (verfied partly by description, doesn't say how much)
c. Decreases Solar Beam's cooldown to ??? (12 instead? what is it exactly, my guess is half since in the real game, it's 1 turn instead of 2), you should have the description say "Solar Beam's cooldown = 12" or something
d. Allows Thunder and Hurricane to only hit 50% of the time instead of 70%. (not said in description, only mentions thunder and doesn't say 50%, maybe something like "Thunder/Hurricane accuracy = 50%")
e. Moonlight/Synthesis/Morning Sun heals 2/3 instead of 1/2 (not mentioned)
Is this all correct? especially the cooldown time?
9. Sandstorm (no info in skill description)
a. Damages all on field for 20 Rock damage (does this ignore defense stat?)
b. Raises all Rock type's special defense by 50%
c. Decreases Solar Beam's damage by 50%.
d. Moonlight/Synthesis/Morning Sun heals 1/4 instead of 1/2
Is this all correct?
10. Hail (no info in skill description)
a. Damages all on field for 50 Ice damage (does this ignore defense stat?)
b. Raises all Rock type's special defense by 50%
c. Decreases Solar Beam's damage by 50%.
d. Moonlight/Synthesis/Morning Sun heals 1/4 instead of 1/2
Is this all correct?
11. Will there be Shadow Sky and Fog in PTD1? Like mentioned above, moves should be added for completeness sake (not additional features or pokemon, which is understandable)
12. Shouldn't Psybeam be a beam type Psychic move like Flamethrower, Chargebeam, etc...?
will mewfour be in the game?
ReplyDeletereg. = Mewtwo
shiny = Mewthree
shadow = Mewfour?
ANPO sounds like a great idea.
ReplyDeletePTD's story will be coming to a close soon, but thankfully a new story's coming to us in the future.
ReplyDeleteSam, I have an idea that might just work nicely with Trainer Specialization: have the different Avatars give certain benefits and drawbacks. For example, the Suicune mask could increase the chance of you finding Suicune in the wild. The Bug Catcher costume will make it easier for you to catch Bug types and increase their power but also increases their vulnerability to Rock, Fire, and Flying. The Delibird outfit will give an instant "present" to either your team (heal them) or your enemies (damage or heal them on random), but as a drawback, your Pokemon take more damage from Rock(times four), Fire, and Electric moves. Some of these abilities could be passive (like the Suicune mask and the Delibird outfit's vulnerability) while others would have to activated (such as the Delibird outfit's "Present") on the menu, much like CO Powers in Advance Wars, or something like that.
So I'm assuming you'll be adding the achievements as "post-game" goodies?
Not Sure if its just my phone but every time i try to install ptd on my phone it fails.
ReplyDeleteIve got an LG Optimus One.
Sam, I was thinking, along with the levels, how about avatars? Guys can get Lance, and girls can get Cynthia? Please reply!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLance Boy link-http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj514/ptdfan123123/PTD2.jpg
Cynthia Girl link-http://i1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj514/ptdfan123123/PTD.jpg
Hey Sam is it ok if I have all three of the legendary dogs please
ReplyDeleteHello there!
ReplyDeleteI think your game is great and you are doing very well on it.I have one question and one suggestion for you.
Will Mew be the last reward pokemon for PTD1(I think shadow missingno would be cool)
Think it could be possible that in our pokemon selection screen you could make the box around the pokemon to be diffrent for shinies and shadows like in the pokemon center.
thanks for listening
Tac
Oh hello
ReplyDeleteSorry to bug you lol but im just curious do you have a favorite generation if so which is it?
sam in ptd 2 how about pokemon contests?
ReplyDeletesam how about real gym battels in ptd 2 like on 1 side the gym leader and on the other the trainer and the trainer gets the first move and behind the trainer there is a huge pile of rare candy if the trainer wins he keeps the rare candy if the gym leader wins he get it
ReplyDeletethis comment is hamza
Hey wats up Sam!!! Use Snd coins to buy specific things like: exclusive mystery gift events, exclusive after game level, moves from sinoh(put DRACO METEO!!!) and poekmons from other far far regions. BYE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you at least eventually going to make ptd 1 and ptd 2 intertradeable? Please make this happen, even if it takes you until ptd 5.
ReplyDeleteI guess it is legendary pokemon for next year or sam's birthday(we don't know dan's birthday) That we need mystery challenge(maybe old three legendary beast)but not old codes. I think it's new code. Who like my idea
ReplyDeleteSam will you add the classic and advanced modes for gameplay in the final update?
ReplyDeleteTrainer Specializations sounds a bit like Pokemon Ranger xD
ReplyDeletebut anyway, sounds cool ;)
Keep up the good work!
Cant wait for the final PTD Update and PTD2!
Sam, do you plan to include the Pokémon that evolve by knowing a certain move (Tangrowth, Mamoswine, Ambipom, etc.)? They were added to the Johto Pokédex in HG/SS, after all, and it's strange that my Tangela knows AncientPower and doesn't evolve when leveled up. Or should I just go ahead and get my Tangela to level 100 in this game?
ReplyDeletei always think, maybe someday someone will do a game not-turnedbased of pokemon well you have my money
ReplyDeletewhy is missingno. so underpowerd?
ReplyDeletehey sam i know that this wouldnt happen but what if the "i cant read" answer on the poll wins?
ReplyDeleteI think the next Mystery Gift should be Crystal Onix(google it). :) It'd be really cool.
ReplyDeleteIn PTD 2, could their be in-game global trading? cause it could getting tedious going back and forth.
ReplyDeleteWILL WE BE ABLE TO USE OR OLD PTD ACCOUNTS WITH ALL THE POKEMON???
ReplyDeleteThe next mystery gift should be Crystal Onix.
ReplyDeleteThe next mystery gift should be Crystal Onix.
ReplyDelete
