Hi everyone! Last week we had the second level of the story mode released. We got to walk around and talk to the citizens of New Bark Town and go on a little quest to save our starter. This is but the tip of the ice berg for story mode and hopefully you got a taste of what is to come. Did you like it better than the PTD1 style of just watching an intro playing the level and watching an ending? Let me know! Your feedback here in the comments, twitter, emails, facebook and on the forums help shape this game. Like I've said before I spend a good amount of time reading everything you guys write. I might not have enough time to answer them all like I used to but I do the best that I can to answer ones that are crucial or easy enough for a quick answer.

Okay so moving on to this week we will have both a new 1v1 level and a new story level! Lots of new content coming your way.

For both the Story and 1v1 level I will be adding some new technology to the game engine. I've been meaning to add this for a while but haven't had a lot of time. The new technology will be for the trainer you are battling against. Usually they will bring out a pokemon and you defeat that pokemon then they bring out their next one. It's very similar to how the waves work in PTD1 because I'm using the same engine for the trainers that I use in the waves. The new tech will be to allow for the trainers to have a team like you do and to be able to switch out pokemon in battle just like you can. Which will make the fights more interesting and dynamic.

Other than the new tech, 1v1 will now be headed to Route 3, we got some trainers to fight there and also a new pokemon to unlock. Can you guess who it is? All I can say is that it likes to sing a lot.

Speaking of sing, I will be making some changes to how the sleep mechanic works. Previously it would just put you to sleep for a certain amount of time regardless of how much damage you took. Now it will put you to sleep for a longer amount of time but taking damage will most likely cause you to wake up. Making it better for use against somebody that is attack you.

For the Story mode you will be challenged to your first fight. Speaking of this fight I've had reports of people finding an interesting way of leveling up your starter past level 7. This is pretty much my mistake so don't worry if you did it, I will be fixing it in the next version so it should no longer be possible.

Speaking of leveling, I also want to announce a new feature (inspired by my playing of Guild Wars 2)! In PTD1 you could very easily just level up enough so that a level was incredibly easy. In PTD2 there will be a limit as to how high you can be for each level to preserve that level's difficulty (to a point). So for example, lets say your starter is level 12 and you go into Route 29 (The first route in Johto). That means you would massively out level this stage. Most pokemon on this level will be level 2-4. What the game will do is temporarily turn your level 12 pokemon into a level 6 pokemon. Your pokemon will keeps its attacks, evolution, and abilities but it will have stats like it was level 6. Notice that the cap is higher than the highest level in the area but it is still within a certain range. Also since you get to keep your attacks and evolution you will still have an advantage. It just makes it so you can't simply steam roll everything once you get level 100 pokemon. What do you think?

I also plan to bring out the first Mystery Gift! We had a poll a while back and the first Mystery Gift for PTD 2 will be Zorua! Mystery Gift codes will be done a tiny bit different, you will still go to PlayTowerDefenseGames.com and try to figure out the code and you will also enter the code on that site's version of PTD2. Before you could go to any site and enter it but now it is exclusive to their site. Since most people would just find the code on a different site and just use it straight off without visiting our great sponsor.

Lastly I'll also be working on the PTD2 Pokemon Center. It will be very similar to the PTD1 but I still have to do a lot infrastructure changes. I don't think it will be out this week since I have so much to do but I hope to get a good amount done and who knows maybe it will be out too.

Alright so that was quite a bit of info. Let's look at the Weekly Progress list next. Also remember I update this while I'm working so make sure to come back every once in a while to see how I'm doing :)

  • Increased Coin rewards for any level that gave less than 20 coins to 20 coins - This is help reduce the feeling that you need to grind a lot for coins. Alright now let's talk a bit about Creature Universe TD. Many of you might not know but Dan and I hold team meetings every week. We chat with our artist about Creature Universe, we see what everybody is working on and talk about the design of the game. So for the last few weeks we have been talking about the types that we were going to use for Creature Universe. This hasn't been an easy task. We all had different opinions. Some of us wanted to remove some types. Others wanted to add even more types. In the end we started from the beginning and asked ourselves which types MUST be around. After we figured that out we went ahead and added some new ones, combined some other ones and even removed some. Here is the list of the types that will be in Creature Universe! Granted this list could still be tweaked in the future. But for now this is what we have decided.

Normal/Neutral - Unlike Pokemon this type will actually be Neutral to all other types. It has no weaknesses but also no advantages. This type will also be more limited than I pokemon where a bunch of creatures had this type along with another one.
Fire/Flame - Pretty self explanatory.
Water/Aquatic - See Fire.
Grass/Plant - See Water.
Electric/Lightning - See Grass.
Air - This type is pretty much what flying is in pokemon.
Ice - See Electric.
Ground/Earth - This type combines what pokemon would have as Ground and Rock into one type.
Metal - This is kinda like Steel, but it can be different metals. Basically very strong and sharp.
Toxic - Like Poison type in pokemon but a lot better.
Dark - Like Dark in Pokemon but this is the type you would see ghost show up in.
Light - This type is something completely new. It's the counterpart of Dark. You would see more magical creatures like psychic show up with this type.
Mythical - This is the type for legendary creatures. The plan we have for it is that it is very defensive against all types except for Neutral, Light and Dark. It also has no offensive advantages.

So these are out types! Something old, something new, something combined. It's got a little bit of everything. The only types advantage we have figured out are Mythical and Neutral since those are really different from the rest. We are still working on specific type charts for the rest so stay tuned for that later on. Or what kind of type charts can you guys come up with? I would love to see them with explanations as to why you did what you did.

Also creatures will have almost like secondary "types" we are calling it species. For example your creature can be a type Fire but it can also be a bug species. Being a bug will carry certain advantages or disadvantages. Other species might be like "reptile", "mammal". We are still working on this part but I just wanted to mention it so you guys knew about it.

Well that was a lot of info! I hope you guys have a good week this week and as always, let me know what you think!

Comments

  1. Can we make every starter the same gender as the one you choose plz?

    ReplyDelete
  2. You should add running shoes or a bicycle

    ReplyDelete
  3. No but I did forget to add that it will now have a chance to be female.

    ReplyDelete
  4. THIS IS GOING TO BE...... AWSOMEEEEE

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sam, let me tell you something... you are awesome!
thank you very much for everything

    ReplyDelete
  6. Looks great guys, looking forward to CUTD and the finished start of PTD2.

Also, not sure if this has been reported, but I was playing 1v1 and after my kakuna evolved into beedrill shed skin still activated.

    ReplyDelete
  7. You should also make like soulsilver and heartgold where the pokemon in your first slot follows you

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sam you should make it that the pokemon in your first lot follows you around

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like the ideas for ANPO. It's really looking good.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ah forgot to add that in the list

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ah I'll look into it thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. can u make it so oyur pokemon always walk right next to you in ptd 2

    ReplyDelete
  13. yup added it to the list

    ReplyDelete
  14. so could ghost be a possible species?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sam, make this unlockable for more than one Pokemon.

    ReplyDelete
  16. if he does that then it'll be like digimon

    ReplyDelete
  17. yeah those would be good candidates for something like species

    ReplyDelete
  18. Let's start with one first then we will see from there it might get really messy

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like how you are not trying to be a knock-off of pokemon. The idea of a separate type catagory for secondary makes it a lot different.

    ReplyDelete
  20. noticed a bug in story mode. If you start a new game, progress some, and then press back without saving, your new game slot with your name is shown anyway, but when you click on it then it shows a faulty server message. The data slot disappears when you refresh the page, and it says new game like it should.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The police officer is still in my way... WHERE'S ROUTE 3?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you actually read the blog, you would know the game is just beginning.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Notice that this is for v1.17 which is not out

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sam, I am looking forward to the next levels of PTD2, as usual. I'm very interested in having a smarter enemy AI, particularly for the 1v1 mode. I can imagine an opponent that chooses the most damaging move or that knows when to switch out (such as a Pikachu against a ground type). I think it would be really neat if this AI had essentially the same limitations as yourself in terms of actually taking a bit of time to change pokemon or attacks. A smarter AI even works well with the idea of Joey's training program since Oak can say that the programs have learned more about smarter battling.

There is another idea that I have thought of, but it may be difficult to introduce: double, or even triple battles! This could add a lot more strategy to the 1v1 mode (which might more accurately be called "arcade mode" if this is eventually implemented). If would also force players to purchase multiple pokemon instead of sweeping the entire mode with one strong pokemon. Finally, this addition would add importance to the attack targeting options (which I don't think I've used once so far in PTD2). I understand the added degree of difficulty in making double battles work, but it seemed like such an incredible idea to me that I just had to share it.

I wish you the best of luck in your work this week, Sam, and I am already look forward to seeing (and playing) the results.

  25. Hi! I think this sounds great and I'm super excited for both PTD2 and CUTD, however I have a question about neutrals, they sound like they could be over powered, much like psychic types in 1st gen pokemon. I've even heard that the designers implemented dark types just to be able to counter psychics more effectively. If neutrals have no counters, even if they also have no strengths, they might just be used in place of everything else. Why train a bunch of types when you can just have one or two really good neutrals? So my questions is, how would you balance this? Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, at least for attacks, but I'm not sure how it could be implemented without making either boring or overpowered creatures. I know you said it would be limited, but how limited? Anyway, thanks for making such great games!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think that is where species would come in, as it could give a monster an advantage over another monster in a different way. Like say maybe a fire reptile has advantage over a neutral bug because reptiles eat bugs. That sorta thing. There is a lot sam can do to overcome this problem.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sam, it's me again. I still don't see it on the list and I hate being a pest, but the story mode map boundery glitch is still their. So that you don't look for my other explanations I'll quickly explain it. The glitch is only in Prof. Elk's Lab Map. The boundary on the bottom continues a bit to the darkness. You have to be a bit away from the entrance/exit or you will just go to the Town Map. I only wish the best for this game. It is already awesome.

P.S.- If you walk around with a party of pokemon, you will need an in game pokemon center to switch pokemon. Also, it would be cool if you can log on to your home computer or the lab's comuter (in the game world) and be able to enter the code for mystery pokemon there.

P.S.S.- The newer players won't be able to enjoy the police text saying you have to wait a week.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i cant even imagine this on like a year or so...........

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey Sam, i have an idea for a type, what about glass?
Don't know if that would be any good but it is just a suggestion

    ReplyDelete
  30. Alex kinda nailed it there

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll try to fix the lab map problem. It's a tricky thing to fix but I'll put it up on the list.
You will get a device that will let you access the computer on the go, like an Ipad :)
Yeah some stuff will go away or say something different after every update. It's one of the privileges of playing it now :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. This is funny because we actually discussed a glass type for a while. You might see that show up as a secondary species.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well i'm glad i'm not the only one

    ReplyDelete
  34. I really like the idea for the level cap! In fact, I think it would be cool to have multiple difficulties, and maybe just changing the level cap would be enough difference between the difficulties. Question, could our pokemon still gain experience while a cap is in effect? For instance, if I had a level 12 cyndaquil in the area whose area was lowered to 6, would he still gain experience from the pokemon he battled and be able to level up to 13?

Also, your idea for differentiating species from elemental type is great, can't wait to see how it plays itself out! In all honesty, I'm more excited for CUTD than PTD2.

Keep up the great work, Sam!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jigglypuff, Ekans and Zorua are coming!
    Can't wait!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You would still earn experience towards level 13 in that case.

    Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sam, when i use metapod against ash's pikachu and two of the geodude, they will not attack until they are in the red

    ReplyDelete
  38. Actually, this could be done simply (only the visual aspect, I have no experience in programming, and don't pretend to, the actual programming may be more difficult than getting story mode set up) with having 6 slots (4 for doubles) close to each other, but far enough so you can't attack the other side (only for triples). The biggest problem would be for long range attacks that could attack the other side, but that's not a major importance in my opinion at least, with so few moves like that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. this sounds AWESOME! every update you make makes me happy :)

and i like EVERY SINGLE idea! but there is still an issue: its not the move cooldown, and its not the move changing cooldown. it happens RIGHT when i put my pokemon on field, it just has a bar that won't let me attack until i GET attacked/10 seconds later. is it common problem?

    ReplyDelete
  40. problem with having an on-the-go pc. In the actual games, putting a pokemon in the pc heals it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Love what you've done :)
Will Creature Universe TD have breeding in?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe Space/Alien, Artificial/Synthetic, Biomechanical/Cyborg, Elemental, Demon. Any of them you like for species?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I feel like in a tower defense game like this, you would need to heal your pokemon after each level anyway, and a portable pokemon center device that you can use between levels would solve that problem as well.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You should call the device the PC². Get it? Because it's a pokemon center personal computer. PCPC.

    ReplyDelete
  45. A bit of a mathematical problem with that. PC^2 (don't know how you got the superscript)=(PC)(PC)=PPPCCPCC=4P4C=4(PC)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like this idea of different level caps. It could be like the challenge mod and assist mode on BW2.

    ReplyDelete
  47. never heard of this problem before can you show me screenshots or video?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think that the level cap should only be for areas you haven't beaten yet but once you have gone by it in terms of story line you should be able to go back completely over leveled so you can farm for Pokemon or money if you earn it in the same way as PTD 1

    ReplyDelete
  49. So, will ANPO creatures will have one type. Or two? Also will they have abilities? Also did you get my email about the jigglypuff following your group around?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like PTD 2 Style more as it can walk around i hope you make a system that when you walk on the bushes 10 waves of wild pokemon come out thanx

    ReplyDelete
  51. I wish for this post to be ignored, I was thinking of (P+C)^2. The original formula still has a problem in that you're only squaring the C, but than can be fixed with (PC)^2. Again, sorry, I take the most recent post back.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Was a little worried when I read that you were intending to stop us using high level pokemon compared to the level, but by resetting the level temporarily that seems fine and fair. Originally I thought you were going to just stop us using them on that level but was relieved to see you're going with the temporary reset option.

One thing I would suggest is altering the zoom and speed functions appearance, at the moment they're small and difficult to click, they also don't tell you what level of zoom/speed you're currently using and out of a possible what. I realise you need to balance their being not intruding on the map with their visibility, but at the moment I think it needs a nudge in the larger direction. If there are keyboard shortcuts for them or these could be made, then that'd solve the small click area issue. Other than that it's looking good and can't wait for the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree with the zoom and speed functions. They are a bit small and I would like to know at what speed/zoom I am at and can go. Also, for the story mode map, you can just have a small pause menu on the corner that can also be activated by pressing the M button. On the mini menu you will have the options of settings (ex.- sound, music, camera angle/zoom, text size/speed), save, pokedex, quit, hint (if you have some neat things that you will need to do on the maps that will make story mode more mind solving), etc.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alex pretty much nailed it. Between battles your pokemon will be healed anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  55. You will get unlimited pokeballs but I don't think you will get unlimited of other types.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They can have two types. They will have abilities also. I did get the email but haven't had a chance to response. I like the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Something like that but without the bushes.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree on zoom and speed.

    ReplyDelete
  59. As far as more options those will come in the future right now I'm focusing a lot more on content and getting the basics done.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was thinking that if we were walking around between levels, we would have to go pass stages we had been already. Wouldn't it be irritating if your attacks which say they deal, say 50, did even more less because your stats were made lower in this circumstance, where you go past an easy stage with a higher level. I would want to be through there in the least amount of time, personally, but when your stats are temporarily lowered, it would prevent me from doing so. So instead of getting it over with, you have to chance having your pokemon fainting because their stats are lowered. I don't mean to hate, if it seems that way, but had you thought about this?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Make it so you can advance text with the space bar on 1v1 mode

    ReplyDelete
  62. Perhaps letting some get pregnent or things like that as well as eggs
so you have to leave the parent animal in the care center to look
after its young to be more like real Animals?

Secondly In Pokemon You can bread two totally different pokemon, and still get just 1 of
them, that in my eyes is wrong and same species should bread with its own species

One thing which would be really amazingly cool and fun is that when you
do breed two different Animals, you get An Animal that is Only
obtainable by breeding them two together, and that pokemon is a kind of
cross-breed hybrid which has traits from both its parents.
Like you have in real life, when you cross a Donkey with a Horse to get a mule.
Or the Hybrid Camel which is stronger and bigger than both its parents
Or the Labradoodle, a Poodle crossed with a Labrador.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sam there are no new story modes or 1 vs 1 modes in 1.16

    ReplyDelete
  64. uhh... actually there is... u can pick ur starter and go to the map on top left where u fight dark mons and that it for storymode atm...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Can it be possible, that... instead of lowering the stats of your party pokemon, the game could actually make the wild pokemons in the map stronger? Like... lets say in Route 29, all pokemons are level 2 to 4, but if you're level 10, then the game make the will make pokemon level 5 to 7, or something like that...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Maybe the infamous "Glass Cannon" will come out... literally... a glass cannon as the name states and may also be a glass cannon in stat wise as well XD

    ReplyDelete
  67. -1 i dont think this is good idea

    ReplyDelete
  68. yeah moves like night shade and seismic toss would be ruined

    ReplyDelete
  69. is the unlockable pokemon jugglipuff, i thought that right away, can you make it so that you can replay levels? you can make you able to chat with a person mnear the place and he will ask you if you want to replay or make a pokemon from the level appear and you will be taken to the level when you interact with it or ther can be a replay machine in the professors lab or something. :) Thanks! I really like pokemon tower defense 2, it is even better than pokemon tower defense.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I can't imagine if we have an egg on the first party slot and then the egg rolling following us
    Lol

How will the egg system working ?
Hatching by step or what ?
How if we bring it into a battle ?
    Will it be useless ?

    Sorry if out of topic

    ReplyDelete
  71. I posted this a long time ago, but for some secondary type suggestions, I think there should be a robot type that is seperate from the metal and lightning.
On a side note, you should have multiple forms of "ghost" secondary types. you can have phantoms (evil) entities (neutral) and spirits (good)

    ReplyDelete
  72. good types for anpotd!!! what is ygfujgilpf?

    ReplyDelete
  73. its like the clue for anpo exept for jigglypuff!!! Right?

    ReplyDelete
  74. good types for anpo!!! what is ygtujgilpt?

    ReplyDelete
  75. its like the clue for anpo td exept for jigglypuff!!! Right???

    ReplyDelete
  76. good types for anpo!!! what is ygtujgilpt?

    ReplyDelete
  77. You should use some abilities and draw from real life. Like make an ability for metal types that when hit with a toxic attack, they take no damage and now all metal attacks can cause poison (poison barbs)
Or one for ice types that weakens the powers of lightning types (because you never see thunder in a snow storm)
Just remember to look to the world around you for inspiration

    ReplyDelete
  78. its like the anpo td clue exept for jigglupuff! Right??

    ReplyDelete
  79. good types for anpo!!! what is ygtujgilpt? is it like the clue for anpo td exept for jigglypuff or something, sometimes i cant get my posts to come out. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  80. sorry i accidentally did so much

    ReplyDelete
  81. sam i think you re amazing and can you just do it like the the pokemon battles like one on one on the story mode

    ReplyDelete
  82. Is there a way we can share a google doc with you? I am currently working on an Excel file of a potential type chat, and I wanted to include a word document explaining my reasoning. Love your games, keep up the hard work!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Also, do you care how balanced the types are? Like do you want them perfectly balanced, slightly balanced, or just pretty close?

    ReplyDelete
  84. hmm well I don't like the idea of the level cap very much, because I also like to train some low pokemon with better ones. with the level cap, i won't be leveling the lower ones because that would be too much work, so they probably will be neglected. Maybe you could make an option to choose between normal and gard, if that's not too much work. But btw, I really like Ptd2 and how it's changed, great work!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Agreed, Sams idea would work better <3

  86. I don't think Sam is going to make it so that you are forced to reply lower leveled stages if you need to get past them, just make them optional.
And the level cap is ment to make the game more difficult, so people dont just start and wait for it to finish for easy money, shineys and leveling. It brings a little challenge to the game.
And your pokemon will be healed after every level anyways. Its a TD game after all.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Not ruined, just made fair for a little challenge. Sorry if you have to put a little effort into playing the game.

    ReplyDelete
  88. yeah probably :D

    ReplyDelete
  89. Say the pokemon you encounter are level 50, and maximum Level cap is 55. You can use lets say 4 top level pokemon to level 2 low pokemon up. Or something like that.

Making it harder to level up pokemon make high level pokemon more valuable in the trade center.

    ReplyDelete
  90. the point of 1v1 is to be different from story mode. Also, if he did it all like that, then it wouldn't be a tower defense game

    ReplyDelete
  91. well the strength of those moves is the level of your pokemon so if your pokemon is forced down levels it directly lowers their strength, a level cap the first time you go through is fine but i don't see the point of it being forced on people every time

    ReplyDelete
  92. So that people don't replay really easy levels by putting superstrong pokemon and come back to start it again just to earn quick coins and easy shiney hunting,
And to stop people "trading" for a superstrong pokemon at the start of the game so they can steam roll through the game with no trouble.

With people having to put some effort in when replaying levels with a max level cap.
This means that coins are more valuable, shineys are more valuable, you dont steamroll through the game to get some quick rare pokemon & items (For example in ptd 1, get a team of lvl 100 shdw&shny ele/fire/ice to get all 3 shdw&shny Leg-Birds super easily).

Is this a good enough point?

    ReplyDelete
  93. You dont see thunder, you hear it.
And lightening and thunder do occur during snow storms. Its just not as common as thunder and lightening during rain.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I dissagree, since PTD 2 will be a bigger, better game making it so easy to farm would be a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  95. sam has already said that coins will be earned in trainer battles not normal levels. and you don't need any pokémon out to catch shinies because they have a red health bar straight away so that point is moot, if someone chooses to use overpowered pokémon early then that's their choice. Sam made the point before that trading a mewtwo, even with a level cap makes things easy level 10 mewtwo still kicks ass. and as for it being wasy to get the shiny/shadow ice/electric/fire types, the only easy ones are rewards (shadow magmar, shiny voltorb because of the quest)

  96. i have an idea for a type tec type like a combo of elect and metel but not the same scientific like, you know? like computers, yes i can picture a creature a computer! and space type or ''alien'' type or whatever so what do you think oh did you decide about fighting/marshal arts type?

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'm loving your types! I just want to add, I wouldn't made all Mythicals legendary, or all legendaries mythical. Save it for different creatures taken directly from mythology. ex: centaurs, Wyverns, Phoenixes, elves- pheonix and wyvern may be legendary, but centaur and elves aren't. You could also then have a made up legendary that isn't mythical.

  98. I just have to say I'm excited about ANPO! I'll always wanted something like this! There is already a similar game called Terra Monsters and I want you to do better than them. Here are my suggestions
-be original! New/ different types! Multi-type moves.
-have a poll for everything! The best way to keep the most people happy is a poll. Start by getting suggestions for new types, and their effectiveness.
-Have contests! Design contest especially. Have limited edition monster/ seasonal mons.
-DO NOT PUT EVERYTHING OF A SINGLE TYPE IN ONE AREA! The game Terra Monsters did this, and I say its their biggest mistake!
I know I've already posted this message in two different discussions already, but I strongly believe in these ideas and want to make sure the staff of S&D games get the message (not trying to annoy you).

    ReplyDelete
  99. They still maybe be able to replay trainer battles to earn money.
The levels may end, for example if the rare candies are all taken in PTD1, making there a need for pokemon. Sam might change things we dont know yet.

Letting people choose how easy they make the game isn't a good thing to do, you don't see big games (Like Guildwars 2, Runescape, Pokemon) giving easy acsess to fully leveled and equipped things to people that can't be bothered playing the game as it should.
If you want to be lazy go play the hacked version.

The mewtwo thing was when Sam was talking about de-leveling and transfaring pokemon from PTD1 (To get a Level 10 Mewtwo), and saying that useing such strong pokemon will make the game too easy. But Sam can always fix the Level Cap to do something about legendarys.

And shinys are easy to get aslong as you know where to go, I used Rhyhorn with Bulldoze +5 Pokemon with Payday at the Powerplant. Any Shiney that appears is garenteed to be Electric (For which the game pauses and you get to catch for free) and I get 30,000 Coins every round.
All i need to do? Start, Place Pokemon, End.
I need no skill, no effort for that. I wouldnt even say thats easy.

Your basically saying "Dont put a level cap on because then i have to put in effort to get rewards"

    ReplyDelete
  100. What will ANPO Creature's gonna looklike and the gameplay? Are they all going to look bright, colourful happy like its for children? Or are they going to look more like Dark, realistically scarey? Or a bit of both, Cute to start with but you'd crap yourself if you met the final form?

Or as i like to think of it:
1)Adam West 1960's Batman (Totally childish and humouros)
    2) Michael Keaton "Tim Burtons" Batman (Humours yet Serious)
3)Christian Bale "The Dark Knight" Batman (Serious...Why so Serious?)

  101. For the species, how about mammals are better than birds, birds are better than fish, fish are better than bugs and bugs carry diseases, so they can hurt mammals more(like parasites or something). Also, are you going to have some kind of underwater area or volcano area or something like that where it limits you to use only one type of creature?

    ReplyDelete
  102. i'm saying they're unnecessary, I'd love to hear Sam's reasoning because I trust his thinking behind what he does. I don't think level caps need to be enforced but I still a reward system for beating a level with low level pokémon like in PTD1. There are always going to be easy ways around a level, I use flying pokémon with earthquake to get through many difficult levels or to beat cinnabar for the achievement, it's effective in most situations.

why are you trying to make the game "fair" for wild pokémon? You can use all the low level pokémon you want but I want to train mine up to high levels and why shouldn't I be able to use them?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Just a couple ideas for PTD2:

    1. Check points (1v1 mode): Certain levels could act as check points, when you beat one the game will save and if you lost or quit early the next time you play you'll be asked if you want to start over or resume from the last check point and if the latter is chosen you'll be at the prep screen for the level after the checkpoint with your Pokemon and items restored to the state they were in (ex. if you had a level 8 Pikachu at the check point and level it up to 9 or 10 and lose it'll be level 8 if you resume) gym leader battles would be great for this.

    2. Badges and minimum coins (1v1 mode): When we unlock better Pokemon they cost more each time and those at the min coin amount often can't get them in a single play through, so maybe for each badge gotten the min coin amount could increase by 3-5 coins, this would only work the first time you beat the gym leader of course.

    3. Starters in the wild (Story mode): I know you could never catch the starter Pokemon in the wild in the Pokemon games but in can you please put the starters on the first route at a really low chance to appear (I'm talking Eevee in PTD1 rare not Snorlax in PTD1 rare)? It would make sense after all how else would the professor get the starters in the first place?

    And some questions:

    4. How would Illusion work in PTD2?

    5. I mentioned this before and you put it in your progress list but removed without implanting it so I'm wondering if you abandoned letting us see what Pokemon our next opponent is going to use in 1v1 mode?

    6. What's some good strategies to use against the hiker with the 3 Geodudes in 1v1 mode?

    7. This has nothing to do with PTD2 but I'm just curious, are you a Brony? *brohoof*

    ReplyDelete
  104. Instead of having our Pokemon be de-leveled, is there any way you could instead level the Pokemon in the waves? Conceptually they'll achieve the same thing but just something about have my Pokemon lose levels that makes me sad. :(

    ReplyDelete
  105. Because its too easy, it's like bringing a gun to a knife fight.
There will be levels for the high leveled pokemon. You get to keep your high level moves with the level cap so its not like it's completly weakening your pokemon.

Earthquake could be something else Sam can nerf so people don't use it to zoom through the game without challenge.

Alot of things can be called unnecessary, aslong as you don't agree withit.

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's only temporarily for the stage, they go back to there normal level+Exp once the stage is over.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I agree with dominal higgs, i feel that the whole point of being proud of your lv 100 team is lost if they can only be lv. 100 one some levels. And anyway, no one wants to beat the older levels again, they just want to catch shinies or something, or (in this game), just get through it (although they've already beat it), to get to some other level.
And any way, the weaker the pokemon we have to battle, the harder it is to level up, so you can't just make a strong team in the first few levels and tear through the rest.
I'm just saying that some things, especially catching shinies, is already hard enough.
Although shinies are always catchable, it will get way too hard to catch them if the wild pokemon attack, we have to defend something AND not be able really use strong pokemon.

    ReplyDelete
  108. well, the game will just be boring if you cant farm, there will be nothing else to do...
it also cant be too hard, i mean, as much as I love this game, i dont want to waste my life doing it (or at leas tons of hours a week)
i mean i can only play 6 hours a week at max. ( this may be my problem but the above isn't)

  109. sam what is the next mystery gift

    ReplyDelete
  110. @samOtero:disqus someone may already asked ... will we get CTs in 1v1 mode?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Ok thats a little bit stupid to increase the cost of kakuna, metapod, beedrill and butterfree.
I have an idea Sam. You can hide in the game items in each town and route like in the real games.
Potion ×5 Gift from Professor Elm's aide after getting a starter Pokémon
Poké Ball ×5 Gift from Professor Elm's aide after defeating Silver
Master Ball Gift from Professor Elm after earning the first eight Badges
Everstone Gift from Professor Elm after hatching the Egg
S.S. Ticket Gift from Professor Elm after entering the Hall of Fame
Potion Where Silver was standing (hidden)
Wouldnt be this a good idea??

    ReplyDelete
  120. I usually love things like this but it is a little out of scope for ptd2 maybe for creature universe.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah I will add items like that. A lot of people requested for the price to increase considering how good they are.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Something that must be said is that the level cap will be higher than the highest enemy in the level, so you will still outlevel the enemy just not by a crazy amount.

    ReplyDelete
  123. hea sam i have an suggestion in 1vs1 mode i think the cost for butterfree and beedrill should be 35 because 45 is to much.just a suggestion you are the boss and by the way awsome game really great i cant wait the next levels.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm sooo late to the party! lol
I wasn't aware that PTD2 was out, unfortunately I won't be able to play this game. I was hoping that this game would be as mobile abled as the first, but that is not the case. Anyways I followed PTD from waaay back when the level cap was 25. It was a great game; and still is :3 Good luck on your success Sam.

    e.g. :
Trainer: I just got the glass monster Figureen!!!
    Trainer: Use Shatter attack!!!
    *Figureen breaks into tiny pieces*
    Trainer: Well that kinda sucked.

    Just a little joke ;P

    ReplyDelete
  130. It means "Non Playable Character".

    ReplyDelete
  131. Can you put like a withdraw option for the NPC so that when their mon faints it has the effect like in the anime (with the lasers and mon getting smaller and stuff)... you know just for like an eye candy XD

    ReplyDelete
  132. I've got an idea for a monster. How about an Ice type/ Bug species monster named Fleaze/Fleeze ( a pun on Flea and Freeze). Sry I would send u a drawing, but I kinda suck at drawing.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Sam, how would you catch monsters? I had an idea that when they are weak, you would use a doll (rag doll for poke ball, high quality doll for ultra ball). Once you catch it/ tame it the doll takes the form of the monster. Just an idea.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'm sorry, I just feel that in life that if you want something your gonna have to work for it, not sit on your ass waiting for it to come to you.
Sure who dosn't want it to be easy to get what you want.

People would want to beat older levels again, aslong as there is a reason to. (Items unobtainable before, Shineys, side quests, Pokemon trades) I played older levels before for many reasons, but i put 0 effort into them because i basically slaughtered everything.

Once the game is finished, it would be to easy to just trade for some high leveled pokemon, I have over 20 mews and mewtwo's and give them away for anything that isn't hacked. With them you could just get to the end of the game to quick.

I've never struggeled catching a shiny pokemon, it's not hard at all. It slows the game down for you, pauses AND 100% catch rate. The only thing you have to do is wait for it.
It would be better if you had to chip its health down and catch it that way, whilst being able to target shineys only in exchange for a higher apperance rate.

I have no trouble defending with level 100 pokemon they just make the game uttlerly easy. The Level cap won't make it as difficult as your making it sound, you keep all the strong moves and evolutions, and the level cap will still be above the enemy pokemon level. It will just make it so you dont sit back and do nothing

Your pokemons level will be temporarily lowered so that the low levels mean something, so what? Your level 100's are still level 100, they have all that effort and exp still inside them. I rarther enjoy in the pokemon games when they make everyones level 50 in competitions, it means when I win a medel it says I really am a pokemon master. I dont want something that says "I can kill lots of level 5 pokemon with my Mewtwo" because that means nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  135. The game will be boring if you can't press "Start, Place pokemon, End" while you sit there and do nothing but wait? I wouldn't of used the word boring there. Have you ever seen a farmer sit down and expect all his plants to grow good if he does nothing? Its called farming for a reason.

I'm not saying make farming too hard, I'm saying make it so that people actually have to play the game to get the rewards. The Level cap will do this.

  148. Hey Sam, it's me again. I found a glitch another glitch on accident. This is the glitch, when you go into the forest to save cindoquil, the talk scene (before you start tower defence mode) does not activate and won't activate. You can walk around and see chicorita and todadile with one shadow pokemon on the left side. Can't really talk to the pokemon.

The cause might of been one of the fallowing.
1.) The update you just put in the game. (I played it before the update and everything was fine)
2.) Talking to everyone in town (inside and outside of houses). Last time I played it I only spoke to the three people outside.

    I hope this helped.

    Your fan/game tester,
    The Howme

    ReplyDelete
  149. Tried it again and the 2nd cause is not the reason. I thought it would work this time. Also, the one shadow pokemon was a Sentret if that matters

(a suggestion: release story gym levels and 1vs1 gym levels at the same time, so the both sequels can be completed at once)

    ReplyDelete
  159. With the Checkpoints in you are going to need to increase the starting level of the pokemon in 1v1 or there is no point to the check point as we will get creamed, also setting the check point to restart should increase minimum start coins so if you spent everything and lose you should be able to kinda get back to where you were

    ReplyDelete
  160. Also discovered a bug in 1v1 if two pokemon level at the same time and are both supposed to learn a new move only one will. It happened having a lv 6 to lv 7 rattata and Geodude, the geodude never learned rock polish

Love the new 1v1 level but I found a little bug. Against the Pidgey, if I send out someone with Keen Eye (Pidgey or Spearow), then it will permanently sand-attack us without ever using a damaging move.

  162. I don't want ANPO to have mystery gifts. I would love to see a pokedex like thing that eould have secret atchievements that gives additional creatures data. Like "evolve creature 1 to creature 2 to get an "it evolved from creature 1" on creature 2s data.
And some much more specific. And don't give reqirements away. It would also give players something to do while waiting for new updates.

  168. A short question: Will the rate to encounter a shiny pokemon be the same?

    ReplyDelete
  169. Hey Sam, Love the direction of PTD2 so far. I really hope the next level will have more too it though. I really want to start catching new pokemon and begin hunting for new shinies. Also with the new world map I hope that you'll start adding some little secrets here and there across the overworld.

As for Creature Universe, the Type/Species system sounds really interesting I'd like to point out that in that context Mythical sounds more like a species than a type. It reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons system a little, perhaps you could even add sub-species to the mix. For instance Bug -> Insects, Arthropods, ect.
