Welcome to another week of SnD Games! The place where sometimes things don't go as planned. Last week I set myself some pretty big goals, but like anything in life, things don't always pan out. No worries because now we have this week! PTD2 is very different from PTD1 on the outside but on the inside it is even more different. Even the Pokemon Center has a lot of new code and different setups than the PTD1 part. I didn't anticipate this so the Pokemon Center ended up taking most of my time last week. I don't really regret it because the results were great. I was also able to find and fix the worst of the bugs, the saving bug, and yesterday I found and fixed the not learning the moves correctly bug so all is well.

Night is coming
So this week we land right at Day and Night cycles, those will be pretty fun. The way I'm thinking about it now is that it will resemble something you might see in a Zelda game. While you are in a town/city time will stand still, but when you are in a route time will start to move. I will try it this way first and see how it turns out. How long each time cycle will last I haven't totally decided yet. I will play around with it as I make it to see what will feel better. A lot of game development is about feel. The better you are about picking out what feels right in other games the better your games will be.

Pokemon will despawn and spawn as time changes, and like the gamefreak games there will be different chances to catch pokemon at different times. Some, like hoothoot, will only show up at night.

Along with Night and Day, Held Items will come out, I talked about them last week. Not much new to add there, other than I'm excited to see them finally in and I can't wait until the everstone is available.

New Story Level
A long with Day and Night there will be a new story level featuring the third trainer that we haven't seen from New Bark Town, Zai! She is also exploring Route 29 but she might have ran into some trouble.

More 1v1 Changes
While 1v1 mode is looking a lot better a lot of people have brought something to my attention and I think I finally found a decent solution. (Thanks to an email I got recently (: ) 1v1 is all about the choices you make. While rare candy those let you choose which pokemon should level up I think there are betters ways of doing this. A good amount of people suggested instead I give out experience that you could hand out. Initially I was skeptical of this idea because it would be difficult for players to know how much to give to each pokemon. Then somebody emailed me that leveling up should just cost money and get more expensive the higher the level will be. This was also something I had thought about but it could bring about more grinding.
But there is a lot of good ideas in there that I want to use. I'll talk about the pros and cons about Rare Candies and I'll propose a new way of doing things.
Rare Candies are:
  • Easy to understand and use.
  • Annoying to buy them then only use them on levels.
  • Since they level up anybody they are most effectively used to level up high level pokemon. In a way this restricts your choices since the best path is usually to have one pokemon that will take you all the way.
My proposal is to give out "Experience Currency" and then you can pay to level up your pokemon. Similar to how PTD1 leveling up was like. That way from level 5 to 6 would cost let's say 5 experience coins and 6-7 would be 10. There you have to option to have three level 6 pokemon or one level 7 and two level 5. I think that choice is more interesting. Also with Rare candy I can only give you so many so that you can't level up past a certain point. But with the scaling of cost with levels I can give you more coins that will help you bring your team up instead of just one guy. I'm really liking this system. At a higher level I can give you experience that might not be enough for your main guy to level but could be enough for your weaker guys to level up a few times. With Rare Candy this is just not possible. The big solution here is that the game will only let you give out enough to level up so you can't give anybody half a level or anything like that. Making it more straight forward to understand.
I wouldn't use coins because people could just grind for them, and some people have thousands saved up so this will be currency that resets when you play and when you hit a check point you will get all that you would have received up to that point. Experience Currency will probably not cost coins unlike Rare Candy. I think there is enough choices to make that I don't need you to worry about buying it since you won't be able to use it as a revive or heal.

Creature Universe Starter Evolutions Revealed!
Like I told you guys last week this week I will show you some new creatures. With pokemon you usually get to see how the starters will progress since it's an important decision when figuring out who to pick. A lot of people probably pick it based on how it looks rather than how it performs. I know I do :). So without further a due here are the evolution lines for the starters:
(Thanks Kevin and Joel for the concepts)

So that is all we have for this week. Keep checking back, subscribe to our twitter, leave us a comment. Let us know what you think!

  2. Good luck Sam! (and forget about releasing pokemon for now, because there is more important stuff to do and we can already release them in pokemon center (; )

  3. Hi, I really enjoyed PTD and am looking forward to seeing what comes out for PTD 2! Also, i'm just curious, but what program are you using to make the games? Is it easy?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Love the starters. My only 2 problems is that...
    A) evolutions look too much like original poke. Wait... looking at the other starters, that most previous statement is all biased. Pokemon starters just grew on me, and these will have to as well.
    B) fire starter looks a lot like fire/fighting...

    ReplyDelete
  5. well, those starters are incredible, i think they should have a few more colours but other than that, I would change nothing, they are that amazing

    ReplyDelete
  6. My computer showed that noone posted a comment. My Computers jacked up!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think you made a little blunder, it says "Creature Universe Starer Evolutions Revealed!" but I think there should be a "T" in starer to make it starter

    ReplyDelete
  8. In response to the Creature Universe Starters... I am very fond of the First Evolution (Middle Stage)...

However, their Final Stages seem either too semblant of the Middle Stage, or too obscure.

Case and Point: The Fire and Water Starters' Final Stages simply feel like larger versions of their Middle ones, without any distinct evidence of evolution. Compare this to Ivysaur-->Venusaur... Yes, Venusaur is a larger Ivysaur, but the progression of its Bulb blossoming is what gives it a sign of evolution, not just "getting bigger".

Alternately, the Grass Starter's Final Stage seems too different to its Middle one. It's middle form has a wood/branch feel to its back, along with its leafy tail.
Suddenly, however, the Final Form has Mushrooms, which, one, looks overcrowded and unnatural on the skin/scale body it has (akin to the absurd Tree on Torterra's Shell Casing). More importantly, the concept of evolution is lost; Wood does not correlate with Fungi.
If I were to design the Final Evolution, I would have taken the spiky Middle Form branchy-ness and created a more flowing / vine-line back... The evolution being the growth and development of the "Inner Tree".

My point with this is that an evolution should be just that... The development of the concepts and features that make the creature what it is, thus improving it and allowing it to more successfully survive.

Replacing features with new and, relatively, unrelated ones make for jarring changes of form that can't be justified wholly as "evolutions".

Sorry for the long post; I was just detailing what I, personally, believe to be what Nintendo have lost sight of on some of their designs, and one of the things I feel will make Project ANPO Special if done correctly ^_^

  14. Adobe Flash Builder, you need to know programming

    ReplyDelete
  15. Will creature universe be released on android? because that would be the best thing you could do to get more followers. PTD went straight to the top of the list and that's why i downloaded it and started following you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The new experience system looks good. I was definitely skeptical about the rare candies because they treated all level ups as costing the same (thus the one pokemon to a really high level problem). I think having an experience currency and having level-ups cost a certain amount is the best, so you can straight up buy levels. Of course, earning maybe one rare candy per gym would still be nice to have the in-battle revive feature (these should cost the 50 or so coins that they used to).

The evolutions look really cool! I'm a little bit surprised at the grass progression of leaf to spikes to mushrooms on back. Intuitively, it doesn't make that much sense. The mushroom mane does look awesome though. The progression of the symbol on the water creature's forehead is a great touch. I'm a little confused on the fire one whether those "spikes" are just added for style or if they are a literal part of the creature. Are they supposed to be flames or something? The plant is by far my favorite and starter of choice.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh... I dont know programing... :l
Lol, I was thinking it looked kinda fun to make things like this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. To be honest, Creature universe isn't catching my eye. I think those drawings look silly.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Sam the new idea for 1 vs 1 is good but maybe it's a little complicated, another option could be do as you said you will do for the story mode with the pokemons of ptd1. For ptd1 pokemons you'll make their level be at max the current level cap, for 1 vs 1 you could make pokemons level be at minimum 1 or 2 levels less than the opponent pokemons level and let the player use only one-two rare candies for each game level maybe. For example if the opponent's pokemon are all level 23 the player's pokemons will start that game level all at level 21 and the player will choose on which of his pokemons use 2 rare candies (or 1 on a pokemon and another candy on another pokemon). Let me know what do you think about this and as always good work!

    ReplyDelete
  20. sam we can find shiny and shadow pokemons in wild?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey Sam,

    1. I discovered a critical flaw with the checkpoint feature in 1 vs 1 - The checkpoints don't give you coins, meaning that you can PLAY from the gym but not BEAT it, as you'll only get 10 coins to buy pokemon. Maybe you should make it so that setting a checkpoint gives you the amount of coins you would have received playing up to that point so that the checkpoints actully work.

    2. Also, I believe the Fire Starter location for ANPO should be a volcano and not a mine. You could still incrporate a mine, though maybe for the home of Earth Types.

    3. I have an idea for the transferring of PTD 1 pokemon into PTD 2: for players with a PTD 1 account only, there will be a Joey NPC waiting behind the 4th gym. When you talk to him, he will greet you and say that he is here to return your pokemon. He will also say that your pokemon have gotten attached to him so they might not obey you for a while. Your PTD 1 pokemon will then be transferred and Joey will begin to follow you like a 1st slot pokemon until he wants to say something.

    4. Why are wild Sentrets still occasionally disappearing?

    5. Did you program a Shadow Pidgey Easter Egg? I can't seem to find one.

    6. I've got 8 level 10 Pokemon with full exp, so what's going to happen when the level cap rises?

    7. Can NPC dialogues have a little AI? For example, if a level is released maybe the policeman guarding it will remain there until you show him a shadow pokemon (have one on slot one) as a small easter egg? This will make PTD 2 more realistic.

    8. Please, can you program some PTD 1 characters into PTD 2? I really want to see Joey, Good Mewhree and Kyogre are ones I really want!

    9. Can PTD 2 have some sort of plot?

    10. Apparantly, you are trying to put generations 2, 3, 4 and 5 all into one game one by one, as the starter choices, game versions and pokemon are all from Johto. Don't do that, as that will severely slow down loading time. Please separate them into different games so that loading will become much faster. I know that making four title movies, links and selection screens may take some four to five months, but if you think about it, nobody likes slow loading.

    11. Is Survival Mode coming, and what is Survival Mode? I don't have much experience with Tower Defence terms.

    12. Are shadow pokemon supposed to stay still or move in the Pokepad? In PTD 1 they move, while in PTD 2 they don't.

    13. Did you incorporate gender ratios?

    14. No offence, but I don't like the current plan for Day-and-Night cycles. It doesn't make sense for time to stay still in a city while it progresses in cities. My idea is to have time progress everywhere except in mid-battle, to both reduce difficulty (trying to evolve an eevee into an espeon or umbreon when time is progressing in-battle is painful!) and increase realisticness.

    15. I also don't like the Temporarily Reduce Level on High Level Pokemon in Low Level Area feature you suggested. It makes no sense. Instead, try considering my idea: If you have an O.P. pokemon in your party, you won't be able to enter the Low-level area. Make it so that this only happens with "important battles" (trainers, gyms, Elite 4, etc.) but not Training battles (wild battles) so that we won't miss our beloved high level pokemon. Maybe you can make it so that Trainers will say that you are too powerful and that he/she will certainly lose and he/she will only battle when I use weaker pokemon to make it fair, and when approaching some gyms Joey will say that using pokemon that are too high leveled to get a badge is too little of a challenge so that is cheating. It works out quite well.

    16. Remember that the things I said are merely suggestions, so if you don't like one ore more of the ideas I said, go ahead and not do it.

    17. Good luck with programming!

    17. I'm terribly sorry for this long comment. I hope the time it took you to read had value. Sorry again.

  22. hey sam, do you think you could hold a contest on how well people can draw, and tell them to make a new creature for this, it could be fun for everyone and it helps you by giving you ideas for the game

  23. ... lol Fire Starter final has man boobs...

    ReplyDelete
  24. There isn't much to see yet anyway :) Just wait untill you can test it :P

    ReplyDelete
  25. looks alot like my Grandad XD

    ReplyDelete
  26. i think the level cap is in place because higher level moves haven't been put into the game yet so it's not just the level of the PTD1 pokémon it's the moves they know, reminds me of the limits of backwards compatibility from G/S/C to R/B/Y.

    ReplyDelete
  27. In my opinion, so far, so good. But it is a very early stage and many things might sway the way I feel.

On the side note the last one always seems to remind me of the pokemon Torus, with a Miltank type sign on its head. And the grass guy's base evolution looks a little bit (and that is good) to that pokemon in Generation 3 that copies pokemon types when hit. Frist one is unique (with the first 3 pokemon generations that I came to know don't know about generations 4 and up)

  30. Working on creature universe?

    ReplyDelete
  31. These are the things that most people would like to have by the end of the week (that's might be actually possible).
New Story Level (Preferably a Route included)
Level Cap Raise (Anywhere from 15-20)
New Mystery Gift (Riolu, Hoppip, Caterpie, etc.)
New Catchable Pokemon that you can normally catch at the beginning of Pokemon Gold (Hoothoot, Poliwag, Geodude, Jigglypuff, etc.)

Sam, seriously, it looks like creature universe is a bad rip-off of Pokemon.

    1. Look at the middle picture. It is a bad version of the Bulbasaur evolution line. Iguanas with mushrooms, instead of
    dinosaurs with some plant.

    2. Fire, Grass and water evolutions/ transformations.
    3. Strange version of animals.
    4. Exactly three evolutionary stages/ transformations.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sam, please don't raise the lvl. cap for a long time because I don't want a Ptd1 repeat which takes hours of grinding.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Major/minor glitch. I can't get on the PTD2 pokemon center even though I have saved my starter 3 times, and I want to get my Zorua from the Pokemon Center!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. how do i get to the gsp to get shadow pokemon?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sam! I think I found a bug. I know instead of Sentret dissapearing, it fades, but when I ran into a sentret, it faded, then when I got closer it dissapeared! I don't know if this is suppose to happen or not, but I just wanted to let you know

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sentret fading means you can still fight him. If you move toward him when he's not faded and has an exclamation mark, he is supposed to "run away", or actually disappear. Or do you mean something different?

    ReplyDelete
  38. You don't need it, just catch shadow pokemon like shiny pokemon.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can you be a little more specific? Like does the page not load, does it say you can't log in, or what? A screen shot of the issue might make it easier to diagnose.

    ReplyDelete
  40. haha server can get busy

    ReplyDelete
  41. flames, there is a reason for spikes then mushrooms we just haven't talked about it yet

    ReplyDelete
  42. good I was beginning to think we had pleased everybody

    ReplyDelete
  43. 1. yeah this will be changing a lot next update :)
    2. Mine will make sense, volcano as the first zone! Volcano has to be an end game zone. (Start zones are usually kinda short)
    3. Interesting
    4. You scared them off
    5. Nope
    6. When you get more exp they will level.
    7. We have some of that in the earlier levels... not sure if serious...
    8. Sure.
    9. It already has one, you sound like you want the end of the game on the first level
    10. only loads slow once then it should load quicker
    11. yes, but not for a long time so don't worry about it
    12. It was a bug that people complained about in PTD1 so I found a way to fix it
    13. Yes, just like the game.
    14. It's harder to do that, when I'm making it I'll see if it can work out some how.
    15. It won't be that bad, are your level 10 destroying the training levels? Then that is all that matters.
    16. Don't have to tell me this ;)
    17. Thanks!
    17. You meant to put 18 here right. No problem. Was a pain to scroll up and down.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I might do something kinda like this in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  46. hey thanks ash, you are a great pokemon trainer

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1. Probably not a new route
    2. Maybe
    3. Caterpie? he is coming pretty soon
    4. yes

    ReplyDelete
  48. Indeed, even if the level cap is raised the levels won't require it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. yjph.... your username makes no sense

    ReplyDelete
  50. It is fun, it's my passion but it's also a lot of work. That's what makes it worth doing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I kind of agree with you, but kinda dont, with the grass starter i agree that the final evolution is kinda off, though the design does look kinda cool. I think the Water starter is fine though, the design of the bull gets more complicated as it evolves, though there isnt much watery additions you can make to a bull so the design i would say works pretty well. With the fire starter, i think it needs a little change..... unless what looks like spikey hair is fire, at which point id say its fine.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey sam do you plan on making the starting cinematic longer?

    ReplyDelete
  53. OH GOD! PLEASE NOT A FIRE-FIGHTING! I'll take anything else! PLEASE!! I don't want anymore firefighters!

    ReplyDelete
  54. The reason I suggested a level cap increase is because of the lacking of a variety of moves (maybe instead a couple of weak tm's and hm's), and in PTD 1 because of the variety of moves it made the game challenging in the sense that you had to figure out which combos worked against challenging levels.

    ReplyDelete
  55. First off, love the fire line, don't think it needs adjusting. reminds me of gorons for some reason...

Water line is good, i think giving the final evolution a bulkier physical appearance might help, it seems to get slimmer compared to the first evolution.

Grass line is a tricky one, Basic stage is good, i agree the first and final evolutions need to have a little more in common, even though they both look great.
another suggestion might be to change the first evolution and work with a leaf litter/decomposition concept and justify the mushrooms on the final evolution that way?

    ReplyDelete
  56. at some point but it's not a big priority

    ReplyDelete
  57. This is why we love you. You laugh with us.

    ReplyDelete
  58. *puts on best fangirl impersonation voice* "We lovez you Sam!!!"
Sorry Sam, but people are uploading vids for the Zorua code (didn't peep). I saw one in the video suggestions box on youtube.
Now you'll have to make a Zoroark by the level 30 cap.
Strangely when I redeemed my code it gave me 2 per code so now I'm chilling with 6 zorua...
So anyone too lazy to get the code wanna trade some shinies/shadows I'm putting up 4 of them(not accepting Shiny Pidgy[Shadow is fine]).
Whats the next MG gonna be or is it gonna be a vote(if so please put up one of my ideas)?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Caterpie... for mystery gift... why... I just don't... not understanding logic...

    ReplyDelete
  60. What bug was number 12. I don't recognize a difference between ptd 1 or 2 concerning shadow pokemon.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just thought of something cool Sam! It is a little way to create a transition between your pokemon games and creature universe!

    Okay here it goes!

When you guys get a better idea on the entire concept of creature universe (or at least the moves and creature designs) you should put one or two of them up as a mystery gift in ptd2, so people are able to comment more accurately on them.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah what what he(Sam) said }:^[
    Though Sam, leaf->wood->mushrooms(Dafuq?)

    ReplyDelete
  63. it is the selection of pokemon screen. In ptd1 only shadow pokemon made some type of movement, but in ptd2 none move. I actually would of liked to see them all move, but it is okay how it is.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Why hasn't Gamefreak or Nintendo snatched you up for a job interview(or copyright infringment for that matter) yet?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've thought of that actually

    ReplyDelete
  66. What is this, is this PTD2? I know Im probably wrong but I was just wondering

    ReplyDelete
  67. Creature Universe is what I am talkin about

  68. i agree with the first guy...the evolutions just make them look bigger and bigger! but the grass evolutions shows differnece from the others. the green on the back looks pretty cool and it looked like it evolved but the mushrooms dont match as welll....and the fire starter has no big fire changes to the evolutions. sure it grows bigger well but the last evolution should have like all of his body on fire to replace the fur. because realisticly they live in coal mines and fur doesn't really match it. so the last evolution should be scorching hot with flames flying everywhere like its personality should be like. lastly the water evolutions make no sense......it just becomes a bigger bull....you should add like floating water particles to the legs or have the mane become some sort of watery flow

  69. 17. I felt that pain scrolling to read it.

  70. 1. Sentrent will finally become nontransparent? XD yey
    2. Are Shadow meant to be random encountered (besides that special one)?

    About creatures universe:
Have to say I love the creatures, but the one thing I hate te most on games like these are flaws on the evolutionary lines. See the water bull head marks? probably the baby has just a moon shaped, and that's what I'm talking about. But what happened to the bubbles? (maybe some water floating around the others would do the trick) Whats with the tail shape? have nothing to do one with the other. On the leaf guy you go from a leaf on the back and a few stems on the tail to the leaf on the tail and branches on the back and finally... mushrooms?? Mushrooms are Fungi not even plants lol they don't grow from branches nor have anything to do with the baby form leaves. And on the fire (sorry for going from the last to the first lol) the baby and the last seem logical but the intermediate form have "rings" on the ears and fire down the spine that just shows up in that form and then disappears in the last form =S

Don't take this as an offense please, its constructive criticism and you know how much I like animals and stuff so I get more picky with that and I bet I'm not the only one that doesn't like discontinued features. Making creatures suddenly gain wings and then losing them its really wrong its already weird popping up out of nowhere lol

Keep up the good work! And send a hug to Dan and Kevin from the pet guy =P

  73. Prefer the idea of money to the Rare candies in 1Vs.1 tbh, and it's nice to see you're working on the day/night. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Some people have problems with the designs it seems, and I don't want to moan (as I have done the last few and only times I have ever posted) but I have some issues that people have shared too.

The fire evolutions are by large the best, and I like the idea of it's natural armour (knee pads and breast plate defense). It makes it look like a beastly warrior.

The grass ones have been labeled by a few other posters as inconsistant, but to me the little stalks on the back of the 2nd evo look like they could be the beginnings of fungi. As Gon said, fungi aren't even plants irl so it is strange in the typing, but Pokemon placed Paras/Parasect in the grass type and mushrooms are definitely not grass. So no real issues there to me. Maybe to remove the idea of inconsistancy the growing mushrooms could be defined clearer from the beginning? (Tbh there are issues with regards to the first two evos having leaves and the last not having leaves on it but there've been stranger things happen in this world.) --Idea for the grass/plant type's final evo tail? Make the curl of the chameleon tail into a leaf. making the curl of the tail a part of the leaf's venation. That is, if you choose to dump the shrooms.

Water creature is interesting in that it is very clearly getting mahoosive. Maybe try to distinguish the second and third a bit more so it doesn't just look like a "big mama" version?

One thing I've noticed is that the fire and water starters are quite playful in their design but the grass type is very bland looking in behaviour? The fire one is rejoicing, the water type is experimenting with bubbles but the plant is simply stationary and watching. Another idea for the grass one to be more interesting would be to change the perspective of its body as you did with the water/fire types. It's positioning has mainly stayed the same.

A feature of the designs that I liked was the pattern of natural defenses that the creatures grew to have in the forms of knee padding. Maybe that idea could be integrated into the plant type as well so they are all tied together in a way? Just a thought.

  74. I just got this crazy idea... (I warned you =P) What if... instead of "shinies" different color creatures, you had once in a while a different form, like you had the base chameleon with the leaves, branches and VERY RARILY you'd find some that would start with some "cotton"-like things on the back ("hifas" in portuguese, no clue in english lol) and would evolve into the mushroom guy. OFC this would mean a LOT more work then just recoloring but... that was the crazy part, but to be fair, would be really neat specially cause the colors could also be slightly diferent. Tell me what you think

    ReplyDelete
  75. That cracked me up. Good one

  76. You do realise that Pokemon isn't the only franchise about catching monsters and making them fight, right?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Right than. Let's get this breakdown underway.

Fire Starter: Starting with the first form, it hasn't changed much, but the subtle change to its eyes I adore. It helps reinforce the theme of its later forms. The second form has a lot of personality. I can really see it being a hot-headed creature with its crossed arms and scowl. Granted its just a pose, but it comes across as fiery. Also, the flame spike things, assuming they are flames, looks wicked. The final form is so-so for me. I like the redistribution of the fire spikes to emphasize its key features, but it comes across as a brawler, which only irks me because of freak's obsession with fire fighters. However, for a mining community, a large brawny creature makes perfect sense as a starter. They would need to be tough to help out with the mining.

Grass Starter: Alright, so the first form is a copy paste with no renditions. I still hold my initial dislike of its simplicity, but that could just be my own bias. Its second form seems really close to great. The head and tail design just feel right, but the spike distribution along its back feels out of place almost. Can't pinpoint exactly, but the spikes on the back seem to throw it off for me. The final form is very interesting. I love that mushroom mane to death and the ones on its tail seem fitting as well. Yet, I feel that the mushrooms on its back draw to much attention. Just nit pick really. Additionally, I feel their was no lead up to the mushrooms, perhaps there's a reason behind that? Either way, if it wasn't for sceptile having those pods along its back, I'd say that would be a great replacement for the spikes on the second forms back. Ah well. Chameleon, tree village, lets move on.

Water Starter: Aw I actually miss the original first form! While this new one looks more calf like and the old one greatly resembles the new second form, I thought the original water first form had a unique look, which is what originally made me choose it as my starter. Nonetheless, I like the idea of incorporating its element in through the bubble wand tail as, unlike the other starters, the water had no blatant relation to its element. That said, it adds a level of whimsy that makes me want to get it into its second form post haste. Speaking of which, I like the second form a lot. It seems like a beefier(lol) version of the original water first form. It looks dependable and like something I'd go on a world wide quest with. Now its final form seems to have taken the most from the original water first form. It has the same leg pattern and head symbol. Despite looking so similar to its previous form, the nose ring, elongated horns, and under-eye pattern makes it look more dominant and stronger. Amusing its like a water buffalo or something, I'd say it fits nicely. I imagine those irrigated Chinese farmland manned by strong oxen.

There ya go. Sorry its so long, but there's my breakdown. It's all my opinion naturally and some of it is based on conjecture. Feel free to inform me of any misconceptions.

Great work guys keep it up!

  80. Sam, first of all, your work with ptd2 is great, i love it;)

i want to talk abut catching shinies. in my opinion it is harder to find them then in ptd1. yes the chance of finding one is the same as ptd1, but you first have to find the pokemon you want in the map. this will be even more hard with the day and night coming. its also hard to trade for them, cause i saw in avatar chat that people are offering shiny dogs and other legends for a shiny sentret. do you think it will be possible to lower the chance of finding them a bit? another possibility is that you maybe give everyone the chance of earning snd coins to buy them. the possibility of snd coins could maybe through casino coins. if you set the price to maybe 1.000.000 casino coins it would take at least 10 days to get 1snd coins. so what do you think?

the next question is, when will we be able to transfer our pokemon from ptd1 to ptd2. i remember you said earlier you need the fourth badged or so. but cant you make it earlier happen. you could make it so that it isnt possible to use pokemon over the existing level cap. maybe they wouldnt follow your order, or fall asleep, etc.. this way you can give the badges also sense (if you raise the level cap after gym fights).

the last thing is about the achievement for completing the pokedex in ptd1. when will we get this achievement and will it be different ones (normal, shiny, shadow) or do we need to get all of them?

i would be really happy if you reply. i think your decisons will be the best. continue your work and ptd2 is great so far.

  85. The grass evo line is the most controversial of them all but as far as i c....there might b a drouth in its area due to which the leaf got converted into spines to greatly reduce water loss from the body n it kept a leaf on its tail for photosynthesis since there's not much water loss from the tail. The spines got converted into fungi due to contamination(a regular patterned growth of fungi on the back would be better) and the creature started living on land since a quadruped around the size of a buffalo wouldn't live on trees if ur keeping the size of final evos comparable just like in pokemon(Since the evo line is an adaptation to a drouth then what was the evo line before the drouth?). If the spines are stems then they should have had atleast twigs...n if the drouth didn't happen then why would anyone shed its leaves in a flooded area? If it still lives on trees then it would be pretty small compared to other evos n should have adapted to either transport via water or air(since it would b restricted 2 a group of trees due 2 the water below)...the leaf of 1st stage split into 2 in 2nd stage(pseudo wings) and then go on to form leafy wings in 3rd stage(something like tropius)(cant think of an idea for water transport). The water evo line is awesome..if the head of the final evo was shown a little tilted clockwise to show the portion of the back clearly seen in the second stage, it would be awesome(the fur is a hindrance to its aquatic life though)...the tails do need a remake. The fire evo line is k. One can eliminate the possibility of it being a firefighter since u didn't officially announce fighting as a type..though the appearance & disappearance of the tail is awkward(if it does). I would love 2 try out ur new idea of 1vs1 before commenting on it. Since I've leveled up all my pokemon(zorua included) 2 level 10, catching any pokemon in the route is impossible since they get knocked out in 2 hits and one hit doesn't make the life bar red[need a help that's a permanent solution to such probs that may arise in future since you'll introduce new pokemon 2 the route(faced many probs in ptd1 due to this)]. Keep up the good work:-).

  86. what are rate to find shiny\ shadow? ..... should you can open a quote to vote the anpo starter names :D

    ReplyDelete
  87. i was played more than 2 days , but i can't find shinies or shadows :X

    ReplyDelete
  88. I will keep this post short, but I think you should do a quick edit to the fire starter like most people. As many people have said, fire fighters are overused. Just add some mine related elements and make him either a fire earth or a fire steel

    ReplyDelete
  89. Don't listen to those who find shinies in 5 minutes. They are very lucky. The probability I think is like 1/1000, but Sam can correct me if I'm wrong. As for shadows, I think they are 1/10 if you go into the deep forest. If you aren't in the deep forest, you won't find them, as the guard implies. If you aren't used to talking to the in-game characters from the real games, get used to doing that now.

    ReplyDelete
  90. 1/8000 for shinies (as the FAQ says). The probability for shadows is dead on.

    ReplyDelete
  91. So here is my opinion for the creature universe starters:

The Water one is amazing! I will choose this one when I can play it. For the Grass one, I have to agree with the people that say that there is a problem there. I would say that the problem is the second one. The last one is awesome to my opinion. It is a great idea. For the second one, I have to say that what seem to be branches look like spikes. I do not like it. That being said, I think you should try to go into the steps of plant to mushrooms by making the second one brown with leafs that have holes and are in the same state as leafs that stayed under the snow for the whole winter and we see them black and brown at the beginning of spring. I think you should remove the branches because they make it too different from the first one. This would also reduce the switch between the first and last one.

For the Fire one, I also have a problem. Usually, I look at the 3 stages like 3 moments in the life of the creature. In this game for example, The Water one start with being curious. He then get a stronger personality that he will keep when he grow up. For the Grass, I see the circle of life; from the green plant to the mushrooms. He looks the wise and grow in this path as life goes by. But the Fire one seem to have a personality change from one extreme to the other. The first one looks like a kind and lovable creature but the second stage looks like a rebel and frustrated creature. The final stage do not go one way or the other because he looks like he would be a strong but kind giant. This change of personality makes it not as pleasant to play as the Fire type. In my case this is surprising because I usually love the Fire type more then the others.

Now that You know my opinion, you can do what you want with it. I will still play the game even if nothing changes. The real question is how many time I will want to play again with other starters. That being said, I still find them interesting on their own and I will be waiting for this game with great pleasure.

Keep the good work and hope to see more soon,
    NanoWolf

P.s For PTD2, all looks nice but it seems a lot for a week. Are you sure you can handle it all?

  93. what is a easter egg and how can i found one?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I just thought of a 3 way strength, Fighting, Ice, and Flying although the only one that isn't very affective to the super effective type is fighting to air so there's only one flaw in those three so maybe make th next game of ANPO hsve those starters or somehow fix them with the final evolutions of the cuurent starters, OR make it kind of like the pans where you get the one that is strongest to your starters weakness

    ReplyDelete
  96. also you could make the flying a normal flying that way fighting is normaly affective to it

    ReplyDelete
  97. Love PTD2 and i think i'm gonna love Creature Universe too

    ReplyDelete
  98. What are the starter ANPO names?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Sam like the game, but when are you going to add poke transfer? Not that I'm trying to rush you, but I would like to know. By the way, the next set of starters should be rock, flying, and fighting.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Had a suggestion. Could it be possible to move your character around in ptd2 by clicking?

    ReplyDelete
  101. he's said before that he'd do it after the 4th gym.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Seeing when he is working, my guess would be California. But whenever I looked at the picture of your new work place (and home) it seemed small and I think of New York when you say small. But I have no idea. I just went from West to East.

    ReplyDelete
  103. That might make the starter even more popular.

    ReplyDelete
  104. An easter egg is a fun extra thing game creaters leave in their games. Easter eggs have a wide range of things they could be depending on the game from a bonus level/item/ability/guy to a new design to a secret hidden logo for a different game etc. etc. They can be anywhere

    ReplyDelete
  105. Have 1 thing:save at every level. Its hard to get back to the level you were on.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Sam, you do notice that you post Hoot-hoot twice.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Actually it's not true. Just think Charmeloen- Charizard. just like that Charizard doesn't look anything like Charmeleon except the color and claws. Otherwise it grew wings. I think wings are a bigger difference than a couple of mushrooms. To think Samorott and Servine look different than their middle evolved forms.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I suggested Caterpie, because I was suggesting a first evolution of each region (hence the etc.), and Caterpie would give us the first pokemon that can evolve in PTD 2.

    ReplyDelete
  109. will this game have a bad team like teamrocket, plasma, or others????

    ReplyDelete
  112. Keep going! Don't give up!
You can make this just as good as the first!

    ReplyDelete
  113. kinda wondering about a certain thing...about NPC trainers
    1. will battling them become more part of the story than last time
    2. If so, will you have the "lock-eyes" trigger like game freak does
    3. would you be kind enough to give those NPC trainers an edge so we can have a challenge?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Sam, just a reminder if you might have forgotten (which I doubt). You will also need to update the pokemon center with the new pokemon data (because I don't see it on the list, but you probably still remember).

    ReplyDelete
  115. HOPPIP

Will be totally useless. Splash and a healing attack. Yippee.

    ReplyDelete
  116. That would be a cool idea. Also, don't the evolutions of the starter creatures look really similar to their first evolutions?
    -Chris

    ReplyDelete
  117. It will still be nice to have

    ReplyDelete
  118. I believe Sam lives in Central Florida...

    Am I right, Sam?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Then it would be already past 11 p.m., that is why I say it is more logical that he lives in California. He is currently working, so either he stays up pretty late every night or just lives in a different time zone.

    ReplyDelete
  120. It's done! Congratulations!
Now for me to get back to my work.....

    ReplyDelete
  121. 1. I think battling will be more prominent in this one.
    2. Probably not the same, it will either be a cutscene or when you talk to them.
    3. I'll be sure to have some challenge there.

    ReplyDelete

  124. Is there shadow(gap) hoppip/hoothoot/pidgey added in this update or was that just something exclusive for sentret and rattata??

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hi Sam! Can you just give me a short "do" or "do not"? I did collect over 25 mill Casinocoins in the last month now....i plannend to wait for Shadows of PTD2 to be in Gamecorner...sow it seems they all will be in game...shall i spend my coins???

    29 of 300

    ReplyDelete
  126. just thought I'd mention you have a famous name

    ReplyDelete
  127. So i had this random thing happen while i was playing, i was trying to catch a Hoothoot, which i did. i was using zorua to attack, and when i captured the hoot hoot, my zorua changed into a hoot hoot(just the looks, nothing else) it changed ack after the battle and i still caught the hoot hott, just a random thing that happened to me

    ReplyDelete
  128. also, random thought/question. for the time change, when you are in a city, is it gonna be automatically day or is it gonna stay at whatever time it was when you entered from some route? cause it would be cool if u could still have night in the cities, could incorporate some extra stuff at night in the cities maybe??

    ReplyDelete
  129. well...... playing it for a bit more answered my last question so nvm on that lol

    ReplyDelete
  130. The gap is probably exclusive to those two.

    ReplyDelete
  131. that is his ability illusion, which I'm going to fix since he is supposed to turn into the last pokemon in your party instead

    ReplyDelete
  132. can't say for sure right now :(

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  135. Where's Hoppip??? i can't find him; I'm playing in gold edition and i've looked for it at Night and also at day

Also I would make a suggestion. Add a clock to the poke-pad

  139. I like the idea of the different times of day, but I think it's rather frustrating to wait for fifteen minutes just to get to the time of day that you want. I understand if being able to choose your time of day would be too convenient, but I would appreciate some way to improve my control over the time of day. I have two thoughts about this. My first idea would be a speed button for the overworld, much like there is for in battle. Now a 15 minute wait for the time of day to change becomes 4 minutes at x4 speed, and I don't have to worry about missing out on the time of day that I do want to look for pokemon. My other idea is that if you do something like rest at home or even enter a town, then the next time you leave, the time could skip ahead one "cycle". If you have your own idea that's completely fine too, Sam, but I would greatly appreciate some way to decrease the waiting time for the appropriate time of day in-game.

    ReplyDelete
  140. sam is there gonna be NPC trade here?

    ReplyDelete
  141. now the shadows only have a chance to show up at night

    ReplyDelete
  142. Will every creature have a species? If yes, then what species do these starters belong?

    ReplyDelete
  143. I vote spiky eared Pichu!

    ReplyDelete
  144. it is in the morning you need to wait until the night will end there is pleanty of hoppip but morning stay for 6 minutes so you need to work fast

    ReplyDelete
  145. When I am looking for a shiny rattata at daytime I must go every time back and forth from newbarktown to route 29, but at night: Rattata, Rattata everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Sentret becomes transparent since he's trying to hide our of your sight, so you can approach him and he won't try to get away. I like this because in the other way sentret is really hard to be captured (you may stay in his back and he turns around very often...)

    ReplyDelete
  147. It's nothing to do with whether a Pokemon looks like its pre-evolved form... But whether the evolution makes sense. There can be drastic changes (a la Caterpie line... The evolutions make sense, yet look nothing alike).

Charmeleon, for example, is said to live on Crags and Mountains... Perhaps it evolved and grew wings to escape the dangers of the terrain... Given the concept of the Pokemon, it makes [some] sense.
What evolutionary benefit does removing branches and introducing mushrooms give?

Granted, I do agree the Dewott to Samurott evolution doesn't make sense to me :P

    ReplyDelete
  148. sam have a any bug :x i finnally found a shiny (glourious )kkkkk but i found shiny rattata at night .... night is a shadow :X ..... i cant find hoppip :X .... sorry for my errors in english , i'm brasilian , and i don't use google translate :p

    ReplyDelete
  149. This might be an idea you already have thought of, but could you add a personal clock to the game? so we kinda know if it morning night dusk or dawn? its hard to tell when they switch to another time period, and when i log back in i cant always remember what time it was when i last played. idk, something i thought might be nice

    ReplyDelete
  150. could you put a link to the ptd2 wiki on your links page? It only has a link to the ptd1 wiki.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Hey Sam it would be cool if you could just implement a clock so we know how long before day and night, but that's only a really nit-picky suggestion

    ReplyDelete
  152. where is the deep forest ive search all through route 29 and i can't find it?

    ReplyDelete
  153. in the mornings. It has a low spawn rate, so if you walk through once and dont see one, just walk out of the route and walk back in.

    ReplyDelete
  154. hey sam I have notic that the order of pokemon I left on my pokepack always gets mix up?!!
even the first PKMN is change and it always the same way???can you check that out because I always have to re-order my team!..

    ReplyDelete
  155. will zorua not change if it is the last pokemon in your party? Or you just have another one at he end of the party? Or they are all zoruas?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Sam, it appears that most people want a game clock, which is not a bad idea. I just want to add a little thing to everyone's suggestions. Have the clock change colors for the different parts of the day so that we can tell when you consider it dusk, night, morning, or day in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  157. sunny day, rain dance etc will handle that

    ReplyDelete
  158. would be interesting to add something like that, I'll keep it in mind

    ReplyDelete
