Fundraiser Continues!
The fundraiser continues on this week, the first 1% took a loooong time but the second % took only 3 days, maybe things are picking up, only 98 more to go! Let's look at more information for the fundraiser, if you already read it then feel free to skip ahead since I didn't add anything new this week. This is mainly for those who haven't read anything on it and to remind you that we are still doing this. :)

What is this fundraiser about?

Dan and I love making games and we want to continue to make them. If you are reading this then I suspect you have enjoyed PTD and PTD2 quite a bit. Right now Dan has another full time job since we don't make enough to support him. I work full time on the games, relying heavily on ad revenue from the trading center/blog and a part of the SnD coin sales. While those sources provide some help they are far from steady. If ads and sales go down it could potentially lead to me having to stop making games or spend considerably less time working on them. Meaning less updates for you guys. We really don't want it to get to that point so we decided to humble ourselves and ask you, the fans, for help.

The 50k amount might seem like a lot but in reality it is the bare minimum we need to be able to keep working on games for the rest of this year.

Do I get anything for funding?

Yes! Absolutely! We always want to reward our fans when they give to us. Like I mentioned before on a previous blog we will have many prizes for those that donate to us. Some of the prizes include:

  • What if my paypal email is different from my PTD2 email? How will I get the prizes to my PTD2 account?
    • Easy! When you make a donation we will reply with a code to your paypal email. On your PTD2 email you can use the code in the near future to activate your prizes. So the paypal email does NOT need to match your ptd email since you will just need the code itself.
  • It has been more than 24 hours since my donation but I haven't received any emails?
    • First check your Junk Folder for any emails from us. Second if you have nothing on your Junk Folder or you accidentally deleted it then email us at sam@sndgames.com with your paypal email and we will get you your code.

Please allow us up to 24 Hours to process your donation. Cosmoids Early Alpha will begin next week. Hold on to your codes until then. Friendship and Happiness!
One of the most requested things to add to the game is a way to evolve pokemon that need a high friendship value to evolve. This week I hope to bring that into the game.The way I will implement it is that you can buy a friendship item in the pokemon center using snd coins or daily coins to increase their happiness. Once their happiness is high enough you can evolve that pokemon without having to level up!


Evolution Stones
Just like happiness it's time to add in Evolution Stones. These will also be acquired using daily coins or snd coins.


New Daily Coin Activity
Because we are adding new items to buy with daily coins we will be adding at least one new daily coin activity that you can do to earn your daily coins. I don't have the exact details of it figured out yet but I will talk about it more as the week progresses.


An Unown Problem and a Hidden Power Solution
So Story wise on PTD2 the next spot is the Ruins of Alph which feature the mysterious Unown pokemon. In the original games you would have an Unown for every letter in the alphabet and for ! and ?. The way PTD2 is coded does not support having these different forms so I run into the problem of how I'm going to do it. Unown also learn only one attack called Hidden Power. This move changes depending on the Individual Values of your Pokemon. IV is something that I don't have in PTD2 either. So here I am with two things that don't really fit what I have here. One solution is to add these features into the game but that will take a long time and it's not something I had planned to do. So instead I came up with my own solution. Many might not like it but it is how it's going to be.


So basically the solution is that your Unown will not have a specific form. His form will be randomize every time you play the game. So when you log in the Unown will pick a random letter and become that form while you are playing. Next time you log in it will again randomly pick which form. The same thing will happen with the move Hidden Power. It will change it's type and attack power randomly when you start a battle. So every battle you could get a different type and power but once the battle is going it will stay the same.

Mystery Gift Shelmet
Last week you guys choose Karrablast as your Bug Mystery Gift but as many of you know and mentioned you need Shelmet to make Karrablast evolve. So this week we will get Shelmet and evolutions will be possible! All rejoice!

Cosmoids Evolution
Cosmoids is still under development, I think when I say something like that a lot of you might imagine me and our artist putting many hours into it but the reality is that there aren't enough hours in the day to really give each project a lot of time. The development that is happening for Cosmoids are different conversations about how the game should play. What changes do we want to make from the PTD formula? How should we present changing moves during a battle? Talking to artist about needing a specific designs, getting updates about their progress. The actual work going on is me making some graphics and starting to put together the basic programming for the game that will be the foundation for the project. There is so much to do but so little time, especially when I'm working on PTD2.

  4. Sam, a question- will one be required to actually trade Karrablast for Shelmet, like, with another player, or will one just be able to put them both up for trade and take them back, and they'll be evolved, like with other trade evolution Pokemon?

    Friendship on the other hand is different. SnD coins or daily coins to get a lucario or a crobat? not fond of it

  11. I don't like that buying SnD coins or doing the daily activities every day for coins so I can buy evolution stones and happiness. In PTD1 you earned money by beating pokemon, and with that money you bought evolution stones, why isn't that the same in PTD2?

    Or you could do it like in the games, well I did not played the crystal game and whatever, only pokemon platinum but there you have an explorer kit and then you can go underground and be able to find evolution stones. Maybe that could be an idea? Cause otherwise I have to complete a lot of daily challenges or buy SnD coines, and Im not allowed to do that

  14. the soft level cap is at 20 so you pretty much get any moves that pokemon would learn if it could only reach level 20

  15. Are they even worth having? Having to endless try to capture the best creature, attempts at people hacking the values, no way of knowing what the traded pokemon has. Not so appealing to me. Glad you are okay with Unowns.

    Btw i dont think its a good idea to buy evolution stones with daily coins. you should really let us earn money like in ptd1 (but please try to avoid that its hackable) and spend this money on items ;)

  22. Not sure how I feel about the unown thing, but as long as you can work it into the story well I think it will be great!


    About the happiness/evolution stones, I'm reserving judgment until I know how much they will cost. I feel like they are such basic functions for the game that they have to be relatively cheap. The good thing about PTD was that evolution stones were expensive at the beginning, but toward the middle/end of the game were comparatively cheap. A system like that where it becomes easier to get the evolved forms as your team naturally gets stronger is ideal. The daily coin system doesn't seem to have room to grow like this, but if it is sufficiently cheap and the daily coin tasks interesting, then I can see it working. One possible solution would be that the number of daily coins you receive grows as your number of badges grows. I would just caution you not to view evolution stones or happiness as another source of income, and more importantly as a basic functionality of the game.

    1- About Unowns, it was a very clever way to go through the problem. I feel comfortable with that. (Although, it would be really amazing having to look for 28 different Unowns!)


    2- Cranidos and Rampardos look simply AMAZING! Actually, good job on all the artworks.


    3- There are some pokémons disappearing from mi PokéDex. Not a big thing, but I thought you should know it...

  26. that would be cool. if you implement more than one daily challenge to earn daily coins, i would also agree with buying items only with snd or daily coins. but isnt there a way how you can implement money, which isnt that easy to hack. i mean you already patched a lot cheat engine hacks, so why not this one? sorry for asking but i dont know much about coding or patching things. just wondering that it isnt patched ;)

    Sam, I enjoy the soft cap lvl going up fast, but since we are supposed to go to all 5 regions that would mean that by second region every pokemon would be level 100 so that would be no fun. Also its not fair that we need daily coins and or SnD coins to get hapiness items, because I would need those to to evolve my riolu, and daily coins are WAY to hard to get and I cantget SnD coins so i have to leave my riolu, a riolu forever.... I don't find that fair. Also I noticed that in every pokemon game right before a leader there are little leader wanna be's who challenge you before you reach the leader in the gym, can you put that in the game (and sell hapiness items in the pokestore instead, but at costly prices IN GAME MONEY!!!!)

  36. one option that I thought about 30 seconds ago (I am definitely more fond of the original idea as opposed to evolving like a regular pokemon) if too many people dislike the current method is to implement something similar to what you had in 1v1. Every 24 hours you spend in-game (using the game's clock not real world) you get friendship points which you can distribute to pokemon. A pokemon like riolu may need 50 friendship points to evolve.

    Unrelated, something I would like to see is autosave again. I consistently find myself accidentally leaving the tab without saving the game.

  39. How about you be a little patient? PTD2 isn't Sam's entire life. A big part of it, maybe, but my point still stands. Consider yourself lucky things are moving as fast as they are in the first place. Use this opportunity to train your Pokemon- I finally got my Vanillite to evolve today, and I caught a Shiny Mareep!

  42. I was thinking that there are 3 codes, but once you've used 1, the other two are locked on your account. No idea if that would work. If not, you could possibly have one code, and that unlocks something in the pc for you to pick. As we saw with the avatars, codes don't have to be limited to pokemon, so if he were to do something similar to that it may work as well.

  43. Also remember that specific areas have their own soft cap. So even if you have a lvl 100 in victory road, if you were to return to that route right outside new bark town (don't know the exact number), it would be decreased to (I think) 10

    By every pokemon i mean the ones you fight in either the gym or in the wild. So does that mean that if the soft cap is at lvl 89 by the end of region one and the champion has been defeated and he/she had lvl 100 pokemon or something, by next region will the gyms have lvl 100 pokemon also.. I dont think, im making sense but what i mean is that if most pokemon in region johto in the wild are lvl 100 will the next region have only lvl 100 pokemon in the wild and in the gyms?? (even i am confused now, but i hope you undertand where i am going.

  52. Sam, I have an idea for Unowns. Why not make 28 Pokemon called "Unown" (So that the You Caught A and the Check Pokemon screen says "Unown" for all 28 forms) and each Unown form will spawn at 1/28 the normal Unown rate, but with all forms spawning in Unown waves. I don't think that it will be hard to code, because in PTD1 there was a period where both Nidorans were called Nidoran, so more than one Pokemon with the same name should not be a problem for PTD2's coding. Even if it is, you can call them "Unown A", Unown ?", "Unown !", etc. In PTD 1 Nidoran's names contained spaces, so spaces will not be a problem either. But then, what is the chance of my crazy ideas working, anyways?

  57. New PokeBalls! Since PTD captures are guaranteed as long as health is lowered to a specific amount, maybe the new PokeBalls can capture higher HP Pokemon (e.g. Great Ball's catch rate is 1.5X so in PTD2 the red health bar will show up 1.5X earlier than regular PokeBalls.). They run out, and once you run out, you are stuck with the infinite use PokeBall until you buy more.

    Also, a trio that shows up at a very low rate (like what you did with the Beasts in PTD1 until a certain update.

  64. I was actually looking forward to the challenge of catching all of the different Unowns. Can't you just code each Unown as a separate Pokemon? Each Unown would have the same stats (so you could basically just copy code from one Unown to the next) but then have the sprites obviously be the only difference. As for Hidden Power, couldn't you have each Unown have a specific permanent Hidden Power (A will always have Ice, B will always have Fire, C has Grass, etc.)? I think the idea of having a randomly generated Unown is pretty cool but as a collector I hope you'll reconsider having all Unowns in the game!

  65. Speaking of values not in the game, I'm also wondering how you will implement moves and abilities that depend on/affect Power Points (PPs). Especially about the ability Pressure since several Pokemon (including legendary ones) have it. Maybe it will lower both the Attack and Special Attack stats of opposing Pokemon? Or increase their moves' cooldown rate?

  93. My bad! In another post, Sam said that the cost of the stones wouldn't be too bad, so I wouldn't worry about having to complete lots of daily challenges. I am also excited to see the new daily challenge that he's adding that will be more geared toward single player!

  103. Instead of an item, which makes little sense for happiness, why don't you just put in a Happiness Value(HV) that increases by 1 for every battle the pokemon participates in and decreases by 3(net -2) everytime it faints?
    The variable cannot go higher than 172 and cannot go lower than 1.
    151 is the Functional Max(FM) at which pokemon evolve and Return is at max (102) power, and 51 is the Functional Bottom(FB) in which pokemon hate you and Frustation is at max power.
    All pokemon start at a neutral 101 which leaves 50 suvivals until FM and 25 faints until FB as a minimum requirement (providing that the pokemon only faints or wins respectively).
    Additionally there is a 10 faints worth of buffer space for HV 172s before they leave the FM and a buffer of 50 wins before HV 1s leave the FB.
    Shadow pokemon are permanently locked at HV 101 as befitting their fighting machine reputation.
    Items are still possible for people who want to blow daily coins or SnD coins, but this way you can still grind the evolution out like normal.
    Speaking of evolution are you going to put in a button to evolve the pokemon because certain pokemon only evolve during certain times under affection (Eevee and Riolu)? It would be rather annoying if my Eevee was constantly trying to evolve every time that I entered a battle in the morning when I want an Umbreon or will that just fall to the everstone?
    Also, when are shadow moves going to be implemented? Are they going to be super effective on all non-shadow pokemon and not very effective on all shadow pokemon?
    You don't need the IV system for the game, but did you consider setting a pair of random number generators for at the start of every Unown field spawn between 0 and 27 with 0 = A and 27 = ?, and 0 through 16 with 0 = Bug and 16 = Water. Whatever value is picked applies to every Unown in the battle and is permanent on that Unown if captured. That way people can get all their favorite Unowns with their favorite Hidden Powers and keep them the way they are. You were going to have to build a RNG for the Unown anyhow, and you were going to have to build a RNG for the move Hidden Power, too.
    This is probably a lot of coding to do though so maybe it'll be filed under "Game Refinements" and pushed back to a later date.

  104. I think they will be more like "catch many of pokemon" or something like that, which should be relatively easy. One tip for the trade 10 times thing: search all trades by request, searching just for trades that request a pidgey. Lots of trainers have put up such trades in order to do the daily coin thing, and as such if you just catch a bunch of pidgeys, the daily activity isn't too hard. Should take about 5-10 minutes. Note that trades are automatically accepted if you offer pokemon that match the trainer's request, so that helps a lot.

The pokemon all should be wild pokemon. you know it will be very useful to people who are trying to get the all 3 forms of the birds(like me). you can can name it infinite dungeon or infinite pillar or something like that. It will be very good! Sam please change the ptd1 mystery gift!

  136. Yes. Most lower stage Pokemon learn moves sooner than their later evolutions. Also, some of them learn moves that their later evolutions don't, so you might want to consider that before letting them evolve... Everstone? What's that? ;)

If I may suggest an idea; every time someone suggests a good idea or a way to refine the game to work better copy and paste it in a notepad organized under Story Ideas, 1v1 Ideas, Mystery Gift Ideas, PokeCenter Ideas, and Game Refinements. That way as the weeks go by you can open up the document and pick off whatever you feel like tackling without worrying about forgetting anything or having to ask people to remind you of their ideas, like my Pikachu suggestions.

    It's me again. I was on the official PTD forums and came across something. You never added some form of reward or prize for finishing the Pokedex in PTD.


    I have an idea for the award. For each version (Regular, Shiny, and Shadow) that you complete you will get a Legendary Pokemon of that type (I don't really know which one). And for getting them all completed you would also get a Shiny Viciniti (because that is the only Pokemon in PTD where you can't get its Shiny version)

If the person accepts, the PTD1 pokemon goes to the pickup page of the person's ptd1 pokemon center and the ptd2 pokemon goes to the pickup page of the other person's pick up page. It will be a very useful feature until you implant PTD1 to PTD2 pokemon transfer

I mean, I have three starters, they are level 20 so they evolved, but none of the first species is in my pokedex, only the evolved version, is this okay? May be know in the pokedex we're only seeing the pokemon we actually have

  166. I am getting some bugs in the breeding center. Although I haven't lost any shiny eggs yet (still trying) occasionally the hatched egg just disappears and cannot be called back to profile. This would be particularly annoying if the hatched egg was shiny. Not sure how this can be fixed?
