Meet the Cosmoids: Vol 4 Fire Koala Blitzupial
Welcome to the 4th installment of Meet the Cosmoids!
Sorry about the delay, I've been working very hard on the game as well as handling my life responsibilities. Sometimes I choose to work on the game rather than work on the blog as I think this will be more beneficial in the long run. Do you agree? let me know! Anyways on to the show! I'm very excited about this next Cosmoids, he is the great fire Koala Blitzupial!
"Content with just spending his days eating and sleeping without a care in the world. However due to the recent drought and fires the majority his food supply has been lost. Filled with anger over his lost, Blitzupial now takes his stand against those responsible."
Blitzupial is a Fire Cosmoid, his main role is Damage and his secondary role is Tank. Marie and I had a lot of fun animating this character, he is very serious about his cause but since he has been mostly inactive and eating a lot his body doesn't react like he is used to as you can see in the animation below he slightly loses his balance when doing his basic attacks.
One of his Special abilities is a spinning kick that will damage and stun nearby enemy units, this ability will be useful when tanking to stop enemies from attacking and moving for a few precious seconds.
He will also be one of the starters you can pick at the beginning of the game. The other two starters will be Chameleaf and Buffaflow! It is a good balance, if you want a tank character you can get Blitzupial, if you want more utility and range spell damage you can get Chameleaf, and if you want healing and sturdy physical damage you can choose Buffaflow. Who will you choose?
Speaking of the game.. I know you have been waiting to check it out, my plan is to release a tiny alpha prototype with a easy and a hard level. It will give you a taste of what the game will be like. This will be out before the end of the year.

ReplyDeleteThe new Cosmoid looks great. Personally I'm not much into tanks, but his animation is adorable. Props to you and Marie I'd say! What's the story behind the gems (?) in his kneecaps though?
I did not expect Blitzupial to be a starter. I kinda expected the Fire Hyena (you chose a winner for that naming contest yet?) to be the fire starter, seeing as that was the third. But alright, guess I got a long while to think about the most important decision of the game... Usually I go with Fire... well always I go with Fire... But this isn't Pokémon, so maybe I should break that tradition. The other two seem really cool as well. But I like Fire a lot as element =.= Tough choice that I'll have to make, curses.
I see drought and fire being a very central theme in the story so far. Do these three Cosmoids come from the same Forest that was consumed by fire? Did the Fire Hyena start it? If so, why would the Disruptor want to burn a random forest (unless it isn't?)? Does this mean the Disruptor is responsible for the drought, which would mean he can influence nature? Or more accurately, disrupt nature 0_o
Also an Alpha Prototype before the end of next month? Now that would be awesome. December will be one of the busiest months of the year though, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks! The animations did come out very adorable and you haven't seen the death animation yet! In general those are pads that he has grown to help with his sumo/kung fu.
I wasn't going to do "starters" but I changed my mind, and since the fire hyena is also a damage/utility (like Chameleaf) I wanted a fire Cosmoids with a tank role to kinda round things out. Also about the Hyena contest, I made a Twitter poll for it. The alpha will let you test out all 3 so that will help you with your choice.
The live nearby but not all in the same place, however the drought and fires affected the whole planet so all the Cosmoids we will might will have some connection to it. I won't say too much but the Disruptor is a powerful and deceiving entity so it definitely has some involvement in the situation.
Yes this month is the goal, all the programming and art is done, we are just doing some menu graphics and I'm doing the waves for each difficulty.
I think most of us appreciate you still doing the Mystery Gifts on Twitter in between everything. Doing an update every few months is fine too, and it looks like real progress is being made, which is awesome.

Ah yes, saw the poll and cast my vote few days ago. Was a pretty tough one for me between Blazerker and Infernya... Looks like Blazerker won in the end, a fine name.
Well, the three starters in the Alpha certainly is something I'll look forward to.
Hmm... how interesting, such a teaser. Now I'm starting to wonder about the Wishmaker as well. But I guess that's also something for later o-o

DeleteOriginally you were going to play as the Wishmaker and kinda make some friends/allies a long the way, but I've always like the idea of starters and the perspective of being a cosmoid that meets the wishmaker seemed to make more sense to me and what I have in mind for the story to go.
