      • Fixing Submission so that it does less recoil damage (100%) - It now uses effective damage done instead of actual damage (Effective damage done is for example the attack does 500 damage but the enemy only has 100 life left then the effecitve damage done will be 100) and will pick the lowest recoil damage from 25% of effective damage done or 25% of the total percentage that the enemy took to his life (For example let's say you did 1000 effective damage but to the enemy that was only 40% of his life, instead of doing 250 recoil damage, you will do 25% of 40% which is 10% of your total life.) The game will pick the lowest one out of those two and that will be your recoil damage.
      • The graphical effect of vital throw will no longer fade your tower and will fade the enemy instead (100%) - This move is meant to be you throwing the enemy back to the path which is why the enemy shows up rotating.
      • No longer possible to drag any of the level select screens (100%)
      • The Fastest and slowest targeting types will no longer ignore speed buffs and debuffs (100%)
    • Distribution (0%)

    5. Hey Sam, i believe the Giant Onyx round is glitched.
I just attempted to do it, and this happened-
      http://i55.tinypic.com/2u7vb02.png
It was going fine, then my pokemon got "attacked", the venysaur disappeared, but then all of it went wrong haha. And it jsut froze with my pokemon continuously attacking but nothing happening.

    9. I have to say Sam, I'm really liking the "pick your own path" deal with the Rock Tunnel. The challenges are a bit tricky, but doable. Hope to see this again in the Silph Co. tower if that ever comes around. The only thing I don't follow is how does the protagonist get to the Rock Tunnel from Digglet's Cave? I also would have liked to have seen Route 10 :[ . Ah well.

As for the shiny challenge, really interesting concept. The first part is a cakewalk. The second, not so much, but I'll keep at it. Thanks for the update. Now to look for some pikachu and dogs! *whips out bug-catching net and walks off singing* "Minami no shima wa..."

    13. @Sam: I almost forgot! The health system is finally put into place! That made the giant onix challenge very interesting, especially since I nearly lost since my blastoise suddenly went down.

@anon 1:44 AM: It's intentional, except for the freezing part. The onix are supposed to attack. You should notice rocks being thrown at you

@anon #1 @ 1:46 AM: Just look through all the areas except for the exit. You may have to come back to some. I'm sure you'll find it if you keep on looking :].

@anon 1:48 AM: To get flash, just redo the route with cut and don't bring an abra. Professor Oak will give the HM to you.

    14. Hey Sam,
Possible problem. I just caught the 10 Pikachu already had the lvl 42 Pikachu and finished evolving my Electrode. However, when I received my Shiny Voltorb it said I was hacking? Any ideas whats going on there? I have also been hearing that trading with others makes you suspicious of Hacking. Is this a bug?

      ReplyDelete
    15. Just gave the cave a run or two and I like it. Haven't found the giant onyx yet, but I'll do some more exploring in the morning. Glad to see that there are more battles where the player is on the offensive instead. Now I need to start looking at the defensive moves more to find a good setup to get past those guys.

Couldn't help but burst out laughing when during my exploration, for the first time since the rate change of shiny appearances, a shiny appeared for me, a geodude. Still praying to find a suicune (all time favorite pokemon) maybe I might get lucky while training my new machop on rout 5/rock tunnel.

Oh, and great job with the targeting system. Kinda got used to the regular targeting, but there were always annoyances I had with it that this is a perfect addendum to.

Oh, wanted to mention it before, but you might have fixed it. In digglets cave, there was a spot I noticed where you can place a pokemon, but it was poised so that a pokemon set there would be unable to attack. It's on the vertical portion of the tunnel with two rocks curved over it. I set a pokemon there and it let pokemon after pokemon go by without so much as a glance. Gonna take another look at the cave to see if that's still there, but I wanted to mention it anyways just in case, to see if that was intentional or not.

Again, awesome update, the cave is a fun little maze to run around and I can't wait to see what other goodies are hidden in it that I haven't found yet.

    16. @Christ Tan see there was never any rocks that i visibly saw, my pokemon just disappeared, i knew it was going to attack but i enver actually saw it. And then everything went wrong =\.

      ReplyDelete
    17. @Sam: 1. Are the pokemon in Rock Tunnel buffed (i.e. increased stats)?
      2. Now that the targeting system is in place, can we expect enemy trainers to use it against us?

    21. I'm sorry for posting so frequently, I'm usually a quiet person, but there's something that I gotta ask.

I'm on rout five and my first two towers are my new machop and a primape. Both are using fighting type moves: Seismic toss and low sweep.

Now, when machop uses low sweep on jigglypuff, it's red numbers indicating that it's super effective. But when primape uses seismic toss, another fighting move, the damage is in black numerics. Why isn't it in red for super effective like low sweep?? They're both fighting type moves but they do different amount of effectiveness on the same defending type. Is it because of the move itself and if they were both using seismic toss, it be regular effectiveness? I'm confused. ._.

      ReplyDelete
    22. You should get to see the trainer's attack pokemon and moves before you set up your troupe, or you shouldn't get kicked out of the entire cave just for losing.

      ReplyDelete
    23. @Sam: Sorry, but I have a quick suggestion: Why not have certain moves have a second or third effect.

I know, I know, there are already moves like that, but think about this: Sand Attack and Smokescreen so far only prevent enemy pokemon from taking candy. However, in the actual game they reduce accuracy. Now Flash does just that, but it does not prevent pokemon from stealing candy, and reducing accuracy isn't really helpful if you're defending unless they are attacking back. Also, accuracy isn't really in effect as of yet, so having flash, sand attack, and smokescreen reduce accuracy and prevent pokemon from taking candy would be more useful now that the enemy can fight back.

By giving attacks secondary/third effects (like in the poor example, in my opinion, above) or by changing their effects, it would make moves more valuable/useful.

To illustrate the second case, payback currently does more damage if the foe's speed has increased. However, in game it does more damage when you are attacked. Now that your tower is able to take damage from enemy pokemon (and hopefully, in the future, be able to fight enemy towers when taking candy *hint hint*), payback would be more useful if it doubles damage when the user is attacked rather than if the foe has increased speed, especially since not many of your enemies increases their speed.

To better show the first case, you could keep the "speed" cause and add in the "damage" cause to give the "double damage" effect. That way, it would give the user more chances to get that effect as well as keeping opponents, especially when multiplayer comes out, on their toes.

Wow, lengthy post is very lengthy. I don't know what you think of it. Who knows, it may do more harm than good. Anyways, it's just an idea.

      ReplyDelete
    24. Does the 'super-effective' targeting system work off your pokemon's type or the type of the move your pokemon is actually using.

    27. I know how to find the giant onix. First you go in the rock tunnel, with a pokemon that has the move flash. Defeat all trainers, and wild pokemon (all areas) then go to the place with the path blocked with boulders, and onix should apper. Battling it is hard, since it can kill your pokemon. Hope I helped.

1 in rock tunnel there is a path blocked by a pile of boulders to the north, are gonna have to go bck there whe we get rock smash or something
2 are you ever goin to make it so attacking pokemon can give defending pokemon status problems using moves
3 i love this quest about the giant onix and i think u should hide secrets in past levels (like a tree u cut down and it reales a new wild pokemon. or a lake that you surf across and find a new level)
love ur game sam, plz tell me wht u think of my ideas - jackjack626

    42. ok sam, I know that the shiny quests aren't supposed to be easy, but after the 11'th time I played Veridian Forest 2, and still no Pikachu has appeared, I have to say that I don't think the quest is any easier than just catching a shiny.... I have pretty much the same odds of finding a shiny voltorb as the odds of finding (and catching!) 10 pikachu....

    51. Sam i'm jsut wondering how much is the legendary dog appearance rate. I've caught a couple of shinies since the v3.4 but not even a glimpse of the dogs. Even in forums i havent met anyone who found the dogs... And in the trading section there is only ONE guy who has a suicine, and i;m just wondering if that guy is one of the lucky 10 who won at the competition...
SO my real question is the following... Could it be that the dogs cannot appear in the wild? Could it be a bug?
      Please answer me.. thank you

      1. Can voltorbs be found shiny in rock tunnel? Been trying for ages... Found machops not voltorbs.

      2. Can the dogs be found at the same rate or have they increased too?

      3. Could you add an automatic sorting for pokemon? Mine is just a mess now with over 200. Could it be done in pokedex order or something? And maybe have an option to uncheck it and have the random order again for those who have their own system. I want it more organized.

      Thanks

    61. @Sabourin:

For your enquiry of Seismic toss, you should bear in mind that the damage of Seismic toss is NOT affected by weakness or resistance, except when the defending Pokémon is immune to it(eg. ghost type). And by the way, Seismic Toss doesn't receive STAB.

So, it is very normal and reasonable that Seismic toss shows black damage value in the game.

      Hope it helps.

It wouldnt only be those tms either you could add Solarbeam and Hyperbeam too. just all of the super strong tms would be there and like ten times the normal amount even.

      ReplyDelete
    68. Hey Sam,

Fantastic update- as always, thank you; your game never ceases to entertain.

I have one comment on your planned update for this week- please don't institute the "up to 6 pokemon for 1 pokemon" trade idea. It's hard enough trying to trade now as it is (at least for me, I've only pulled off two trades so far for pokes that I've wanted - although I did manage to give away all the extra shinies I've put up for common pokes pretty quickly), I don't even want to imagine how preposterous people's demands will get if they know they can get up to 6 pokes for their one.

Besides, with the shiny quests, isn't the playing field leveled a bit now? We don't NEED to make a shiny paras worth 6 shiny mankeys... So the trading market doesn't need to get more intricate, it can stay as is (imho).

Lastly: tradition! In the spirit of the original games, trades should be 1 for 1 - or are you trying to say not all pokemon have the potential to be great, given a good trainer and some training?! Ash Ketchum and Professor Oak would not be proud of that ;)

    69. btw the 0.0125 shiny rate is still way too low

0.05-0.1 would be the best imo
just think bout the new players...they can't catch, can't trade (cuz they getting too expensive...they cant give any "usable"/missing pokemons to the players who's been playing with the "300% shiny" version of the game

    81. v3.5.2 is now out on the blog! Save your v3.5.1 and start playing v3.5.2 since I will disable saving in v3.5.1 in about 2 hours.

v3.5.2 fixes the game saying that you hacked when you complete the shiny quest or get an npc trade, it also fixes the game crashing when fighting the giant onix.

I'm currently working on getting a Shiny Farfetch'd (as I got EXTREMELY lucky and got a Shiny Spearow!). I'm pretty sure you could use it, but if not, I'll keep it.

As a note, Machop is EXTREMELY rare.

Once the 6 Pokemon Trading is up, I'll be looking to trade for Golem, Alakazam and Machamp, so if you need any regulars, tell me, especially if you need a regular Golem/Alakazam/Machamp, since I'll be offering Graveler, Kadabra and Machoke.

    87. Hey Sam, got a little question... I don't know if I missed something or whatever, but somehow there are no Pikachu-waves in Viridian Forest 2... Played like 30-35 times now, not even a single pikachu, nothing. (I'm using the blue edition) A friend of mine playing the red edition is getting the waves as they should be. But not a single for me... Is it a bug or did you remove them from the blue editions or am I just very very unlucky? I don't know.

      ReplyDelete
    104. Sam, the wild Pokemon sections on the Rock Tunnel could SERIOUSLY use a ninth place to put your Pokemon: right in the middle of the horizontal section, at the bottom, just like in the Pewter Gym level.

I suggest this because of the five wild Pokemon (Voltorb, Onix, Geodude, Machop and Zubat), Jynx and Mr. Mime are Super Effective against four of them (the latter four), while Dugtrio is Super Effective against the first three and Machop is useful against the middle three.

      ReplyDelete
    120. Hey Sam, why cant Machop learn Dynamicpunch VIA TM?

      ReplyDelete
    121. @Sam. Just wanna throw out an idea.

Let's say in the shop, there'd be an item called a "Dog Whistle."

Priced at about 10 million credits, this item, while in your inventory, increases the encounter rate of the dogs to be equal to the encounter rate of shiny pokemon. HOWEVER, once a single legendary dog appears, the whistle is instantly used up and removed from the user's inventory, meaning that if they miss that opportunity, they'd have to save another 10M for the next whistle.

In three weeks of almost nonstop play, I barely have 1M, so by the time someone builds up 10M, odds are that they'd have already found a dog.

I think this is a legitimately applicable shop item for the following reasons 1) with such a high price tag, it would take a LOT of gameplay in order to buy it (equivalent to buying 1000 evolution stones) 2) even if a person does buy it, the odds of encountering a single dog is 1/8000, so it's not like it'd be an instant dog, there's still work to be done to earn it. 3) if a person is looking for a specific dog, then the odds of finding that one dog is 1/24000 (1/8000 times 1/3).

Overall, dogs would still be incredibly rare and hard to find so they won't lose value in the trade economy, such an item gives players hope of finding the dog they want even if the odds are still against them, and it gives a big ticket item for people to save their credits for in the shop, making them choose between setting themselves back 10K to give a pokemon a move/stone and saving that 10K to be that much closer to the whistle.

Should you like this idea and implement it, I'd just advise that you extensively test it to make sure that it does disappear from the inventory when a dog appears on the field. That aside, if you do, pardon the pun, throw us this bone to chew on, I bet it'll make some people pretty happy.

      ~Sabourin

PS: if you like this idea, there's also the concept of including three more whistles that function the same way, but for a specific dog and with double the price of the normal dog whistle. In my opinion though, just the normal whistle is enough of a dog-finding aid. Also, just out of curiosity, does this sound like a decent idea or did it sound stupid the minute you finished reading it?

      ReplyDelete

    123. Hey Sam, sorry for bringing up a very old topic, but I was checking the previous posts for PTD, and I recalled the topic about Classic mode and Advanced. (tower health, attack power, etc.) When will that be implemented?

    124. Sam,
first, I would like to say that I am Brazilian and still teenager, so I can't speak English very well.

Okay, let's cut to the chase:I suspect that most people must be with a lot of money in the game. So I think it's a good idea to put more ways to spend money beyond the stone of evolution. One of my suggestions is to sell more types of Poké Balls and/or able to buy Pokemon (but I know it's difficult this in game for you).

I would only comment if if it was very necessary that I think this demonstrates that urgent.

But for me it's just a glitch in the game and I imagime how it is difficult to make games then, anyway, congratulations for all the work.

    145. I have an idea to propose regarding hotkeys.

Now that our options are becoming more complex and varied (such as due to the addition of the targetting system), I was thinking it would be really useful if you were to implement a Hotkey system now.
Since you're making the update for this week pretty small, I was hoping you could perhaps implement this idea since it should in theory (at least in my mind) be easy.

      It would be really simple.
In battle, you could select any of your 6 Pokemon using the numbers 1 to 6.
Once that Pokemon is selected, as usual, the menu comes up to select moves and how you wish to target.
In this menu now, the numbers 1 to 4 could be used to select the desired move.
Then, in order to select the targetting option, we could use the letters from QWERTYUIOP to select the target. So Q being the first option and P (or rather O) being the last option.
Then ENTER could be pressed to select DONE.
Oh and also, SPACEBAR could be used to select Level Up.

I do think this would be a relatively easy system to implement though if I am wrong, do forgive me for my ignorance (since I'm not a developer and have no idea how easy/difficult it would be to implement such an idea.)

Nevertheless, such an idea would be really helpful especially for people like me who are playing on a laptop and using that annoying touchpad. (Yes! I need to get a mouse! :P)

Anyway, hope you like the suggestion.

    148. Sam,

I actually prefer to have whirlwind hit pokemon a few times. I know it sounds stupid, but i think it would be helpful to have a "whirlwind button" on the targeting system. You basically can choose how many times whirlwind can hit one pokemon. It goes up to whirlwind x10, and then it goes whirlwind xinfinite. What do ya think.

      ReplyDelete
    155. I probably won't get a reply to this (as usual), but as good as the targeting system is, it needs to be improved. You should be able to have multiple target options instead of just one. For one, some should toggle (for instance, fastest and slowest can be toggled between the two, and lowest life and highest life). With this, I can choose lowest life and slowest or lowest life and fastest for my target, etc.... You should also have a box check for ignore shiny.

As mentioned before (hopefully you'll be aware of it by now). Machamp isn't currently in the game because self-trading (and my guess even regular trding) doesn't allow Machoke to evolve. Can this be fixed without patching the game (since it seems like a trading system bug instead)?

I also agree with the shortcut/keyboard option that Jamz159 mentioned (along with added arrow key scrolling).

The old rod makes Magikarp appear in the Cerulean Gym 1 level. You have to place Magikarp out to level him up, he sometimes splashes, and sometimes doesn't. Just be patient. When he learns tackle after several levels, it'll go much faster!

People have already asked about Shadow Pokemon. I don't think that many more pokemon will come from Mystery Gift in the future unfortunately, so you won't have to worry about it. Also there is no way going back and figuring that out. Only now are pokemon being tagged as "hacked".

I'm trying to beat the last Gym, and you need roar/whirlwind to do it, and I swear even if the pokemon with the candy is pixels away from my pokemon, and they're set to "focus candy" it NEVER HITS THE RIGHT POKEMON. I can't even get to wave 5 or anything because it's just letting the pokemon go. I also set one pokemon to "ignore candy" to have it in the same area but so it won't hit the candy pokemon, and it still did. And even setting the targeting to "normal" isn't changing anything at all. In fact I noticed before the tower pokemon would naturally go after candy pokemon, but now it's just totally random and increasingly frustrating :( Please please pleas fix!!!! :(

    180. @Jstkirk - you have to put the pokemon with "cut" next to the tree. Did you see Prof. Oak? Try teaching it to bellsprout, it can learn flash and cut. Pikachu can also learn flash.

    181. @anon 1:20AM- Whirlwind only turns a pokemon around once now so even if you set focus candy he can't hit the guy with the candy twice and will thus hit somebody else.

    184. Damn you Sam... Damn you for making such an awesome addictive game when I have summer reading to do...

    185. Sam, how do people have Machamp? When recalling, I don't get it to evolve so how is this possible?

Also, what does Hacked Pokemon in the trade market in the trade center? If it's hacked, why would it be allowed there?

"San q"! I've stuck with One Piece from the beginning and won't stop watching/reading til the end! Besides, that song is sheer brilliance when sung by Mrs. Tanaka.

    188. Sam,

Can you please make it so that we can turn the Old Rod "off"? I'm sick of Magikarp ;) <-- joke

But seriously, can we turn it off? And can we switch to other rods (as we get them) or shut them off? It'd be cool to have them all listed as options and that they become non-grey as we win them :)

    191. Hey Sam, here are a few more missing moves.
      Captivate: Butterfree @ 40, Vulpix @ 41, Nidoran F&M at 43,
      Bestow: Clefairy @ 25
      Stored Power: Clefairy @ 43
      Mean Look: Zubat @ 29, Golbat @ 33, Jynx @ 25
      Aromatherapy: Vileplume @ Start
Switcheroo: Persian @ Start, Hypno @ Start
      Covet: Mankey @ Start
      Fling: Primeape @ Start
      Role Play: Kadabra @ 42, Mr. Mime & 43
      Trick: Mr. Mime @ 36

      Also, regarding your previous post

"Once you can request what you want in trades once somebody offers what you requested the trade will happen automatically."

Can there be a level limit implemented as well, or perhaps a setting to decide whether or not the trade is automatic? Say you want a specific pokemon but under level 41 or 42 so you have the chance to decide which moveset the pokemon has and also have the chance to evolve the pokemon. For example, squirtle learns hydro pump at level 40. I would want to be traded a squirtle level 40 or less because then I'd be able to evolve it to wartortle and then to blastoise after learning hydro pump, but I wouldn't be able to do that with a level 41 or 42 squirtle.
