Blog updates
I want to apologize for not having blog updates the last few weeks. As my wedding get near things start to get hectic and I have less and less time to sit down and work and so by not doing blog post I saved those precious hours, however things seemed to have calmed down a bit and so I plan to continue with blog updates every week like before. There is much to talk about.

Fundraiser lives on!
The fundraiser is alive and kicking. The last few weeks I made it a point to add new ways for you to donate and the fundraiser has gained dramatically from this. If you haven't heard about the fundraiser basically we are asking you guys to help us keep making PTD2 and Cosmoids while giving out great prizes. Some of the prizes include access to the Cosmoids Early Alpha, Shiny Rayquaza and Cosmoids Starters for your PTD2 account. Instead of going over every detail here on the blog we have made a page exclusively for the funding. You can find it here. Check it out, if you feel like we deserve to stay alive making games then give us a little help.

Phase 3 of the Fundraiser
Today we start Phase 3 of the fundraiser. What does it mean? NEW PRIZES! For funding $10 or more you will receive in the near future your choice of one of the 3 starters from Cosmoids (you can check them out in the Early Alpha). You will get to pick your favorite and they will stats and move set similar to other starters in pokemon. They won't however evolve right away since we don't have the graphics done for the evolutions. You will also receive 2 of the one that you choose so that you can trade it with somebody. Lastly if you are wondering they will not be able to breed with each other or with any other pokemon.

Cosmoids Early Alpha Released
I'm super excited to announce that for those who funded us any amount now have access to the Cosmoids Early Alpha. If you don't have access and would like to check it out it is very simple. Go to the Pokemon Center's Funding Rewards page and watch a video ad to fund a few cents to us and get access.

Okay so now that you checked it out I wanted to talk about a couple of things that you might have noticed. First of a lot of the graphics are not final and some are close to final. Mostly everything is not final except for the creature units. Those are pretty close to the final graphic besides a few tweaks on size and some minor details. Another huge thing is that there is a lot missing. The UI which is always important is not set up yet.

So you might ask what is the point then? Well there are plenty of points. What I want you to check out is that you can put units in any spot on the map, units have different ranges depending on the attack they are doing. Also unit's attack speed will be based around the base speed of the creature. In PTD I always wanted to do that so that electric pokemon would attack very fast and slow pokemon like slowpoke etc would have a long time between attacks. The problem with pokemon is that attack stats are not balanced around speed since speed in pokemon only means who gets to go first. For cosmoids I do want the base speed to affect attack speed and so we will be balancing around that. In the alpha you can see that the chameleon has a high attack speed but doesn't inflict as much damage. While the koala has a lower attack speed but does more damage per hit. All the numbers still need to be tweaked so the balance is not there yet but it should show a little of what I want to accomplish for this game which is...

Cosmoid Creatures should feel different from one another
I think long and hard about the games that I'm making. On one hand I have PTD a game that I have already established so I don't want to add too much or remove things. Then on the other hand I have Cosmoids which is something new. I don't have anything that tells me how the stats should work or what levels and creatures I need to have. This is both a curse and a blessing. Mostly a blessing in my eyes. So I started to think about what Cosmoids is about and in the same thought what is PTD about. Is the whole point of the game to just capture all your favorite creatures? Do you just set a unit down and watch it all unfold? I thought a lot about it and came to some conclusions, but most importantly I came to the conclusions as to what I wanted the game to be about. I want the game to be about you discovering new creatures, trying them out in battle and picking the ones that suit your playstyle and taste and using them to beat the challenges that I lay in front of you. Using the combination of attack speed, attack ranges, defense, hp and attack stats to create very unique creatures that all play a little differently. I hope that the alpha can give you a little sense of how I want to make each creature feel a little different.

Pokemon Tower Defense 2 updates!
Many of you know that I've always wanted to make a Pokemon MMO but obviously I would need the copyright to make it happen. Cosmoids is a way to creature my own original creatures so that I can still make a creature MMO in my lifetime. Cosmoids is very important to the future of Sam & Dan Games cause it make it our first truly original game that we distribute to any place we want. Steam, Android, Appstore etc. So in many ways Cosmoids is going to get a lot of my attention from here on out. That doesn't mean that I'm not going to be working on PTD2. I will continue to do updates for PTD2 but with a slight change in focus.

My focus now is more on getting more attacks and more creatures into the game each week. You might have noticed I'm doing giveaways the last few weeks starting with Luvdisc and then Litwick. These particular giveaways are a sort of experiment. I'm curious to see if eventually these 2 will be common among users as more and more are breed. Luvdisc will take longer in my opinion because right now it can only breed with itself. Another way I'm adding more pokemon is by starting to allow PTD1 transfers over to PTD2. Each week I want to add at least 3 new families that will be able to transfer. Also I want to reach the mighty level 100 soft cap so that most of the attacks are added in the game and will make transferring from PTD1 and adding new creatures faster as more attacks are added. Also this week I'm adding the Dusk Stone and the Reaper's Cloth so that you can evolve your recently new Ghost Pokemon. The story mode is still very important to me and even 1v1 is important. But these take a lot of time to create, this week I won't be doing a story mode level but next week I will.

So let's look at what I will be working on this week.

    7. Could we get Flame Burst fixed please? It's currently only hitting 1 target at a time instead of the intended multiple targets... though it is only affecting Litwick currently, later it will affect Charmander at 28, Vulpix at 23, Growlith at 28, Magby at 22, and Slugma at 23. Just hate to see such a good move go to waste lol.

    8. Hey Sam, there is a bug about of Gible family's abilities "rough skin"... when a pokemon faints for the damage made by this ability the game freeze (I tried it with the guard's Crobat and happen every time)
      I hope you could fix it...

    11. Sand Arena (Trapinch's) does not keep enemies in the maps
      The combo Pluck + Pickup isn't working.
      Swift is supposed to hit multiple targets.
      Taunt stops all non-damaging moves.

      These are issues that probably need fixing, although it isn't too major. Please add it to things to add/ change in the future list. Sam, thank you for taking the time to make the game and read this. You deserve a good reward.

    12. Since Sam updated the blog, I'll re-post this.

      Ok everyone, listen up! I've found a way to re-use the stones and friendship dolls. First, give the item to the pokemon you want to evolve like you normally would. Next, put a phanpy with pickup (ability) in the team. Next just start the battle like you normally would. The pokemon will use the item and evolve. Then phanpy's pickup will pitch in and take the item. Make sure phanpy doesn't have an item to begin with! Maybe you knew this already, I just said this cuz I don't think Sam intended this. Use this while it's hot before Sam fixes it!

      P.S. It really works! Trust me!

    14. Well, it's currently not doing any damage to adjacent, or the floating combat dmg isn't showing it anyway. It might be worth re-wording the tool-tip if that's intentional. It's currently worded in PTD:G as The user attacks all nearby targets with a bursting flame.

    15. Something
      weird happened, I was training a Phanphy and it got to level 15. I had a
      Gastly at level 12 beforehand. Then I went to the Pokémon center to release
      some Phanphy (I caught too many). After I released some, I couldn't find my
      level 15 Phanphy and my Gastly was strangely level 15. So I went back on to my
      account, but that level 15 Gastly was like a regular Gastly (stats, abilities,
      etc.). The weird thing was, that level 15 Gastly had all the attacks my old
      level 15 Phanphy had (Rollout, Flail, Defense curl, and Odor Sleuth). In the
      end, I had a weird level 15 Gastly with Phanphy attacks, and a missing level 15
      Phanphy. It's okay I guess, since I could just train another one. What
      happened? I don't want it to happen again (like on a level 100).

      anyway can you also add the pokedex bug i mentioned before to the update list. if you only put up a pokemon for trade it also disappeared from the pokedex. its kinda frustrating that my pokedex now misses some pokemon i traded away.

    26. please dont do more of those give aways. people with mulitple accounts are cheating and not letting other people get some of those pokemon too. one of my friends has four accounts and he got a bunch of luvdiscs and litwicks with them and wont trade them.

      1) Cosmoids might end up on steam? That would be cool, but would that mean it would cost money?

      2) For the funding videos, is there any method as to when they appear? I keep checking to see, but there never seems to be any on.

    44. Arena Trap and likewise Shadow Tag in the normal pokemon game is overly powerful too. There's a reason a lot of tourneys banned Wobbuffet.

    45. Yes, but in the game battles are one vs one (or double battles or triple battles). Tower defense games are completely different, and there is rarely a notion of one pokemon vs another, except in trainer battles where I think sand arena works. But it wouldn't make sense for it to apply to hundreds of passing pokemon.

    46. I agree a full on stop would just break the game, they'd show up on screen and never progress. I was just stating the fact that the abilities were overpowered in the normal non-TD games.


      Perhaps a slow aura given off from the pokemon with those abilities would work and not be game breaking.

      Just kidding, I know that's not what you meant. I really like the idea of being able to place the creatures anywhere. Will you implement path re-direction at all? That's one of my favorite things of more grid-based tower defense games, where you can block the paths of enemies so that they have to go the long way round or simply attack your towers. Perhaps that would best be implemented as aggro in this game. Something like that would be awesome though!


      And I hope the wedding planning goes well! I'll be getting married in June, so I definitely know how that (and just the relationship) can take a lot of time and investment. I'm sure things will just get more hectic before the end. It's always nice to hear a word from our beloved developer, even if it is only to say that he is busy with life :)

    49. The games mechanics work differently than the 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 combats from the main series too. AOE moves should have a little more power in a tower defense game imo.

    50. I agree, the limited giveaway pokemon are quickly becoming excessively valuable. Even the non-shiny babies that are up people are asking for sets Shiny Johto starters, Rayquazas or Shiny versions of Riolu/Golett. Perhaps these giveaways could be added to the adoption lists a week after the giveaway or when the next giveaway is passed out.... just an idea.

    51. Sam I beg of you. Please stop these first 500 only giveaway. I can never get them. The users who have them, breed them and ask for shiny starters and other very rare pokemon! Sam do one of the following improvement to it :-
      1)Stop the first 500 only giveaway

      2)Instead of a giveaway, you place 1 male 1 female of that pokemon in the user's pickup area and if they do not pickup in 24 hrs, those pokemon gets deleted

      3)Make them a giveaway with the regular giveaway but without any limit on it. (2 give away per week!)

    57. Hey, uh, Sam? Why is Shadow Punch listed among the moves to be added to the game? It's already in there, Golett learns it. Also, is it possible you might add the Metal Coat (and, by extension, Steelix), as long as you're already adding evolution items? I mean, I'm in no particular rush to have Steelix added myself, not until the PTD1 transfers are up to Onix, because I intend to have my set of level 100 Onix become Steelix, rather than the in-game trade Onix here, but I'm just wondering.

    59. what if your pokemon is able to learn a move between lvl. 20 - 25 but it's a higher leven, is it able to relearn it? I mean, when you go to that pokemon its page, and press on relearn.

    60. and maybe it's an idea to ' adopt ' the pokemon that were the mystery gift for that week, I missed the gible mystery gift cause I had vacation and I wasn't home. And that you make them 500 daily coins. Yeah I know you can also trade them, but it's hard to find someone who doesn't want a rayquaza for it.

    73. Like who? Remember that evolved pokemon learn moves at higher levels in general than their pre-evolved forms, so that does change things a bit.

    75. Well, Sam wanted to actually see if we would breed the pokemon and they would become common. So although it is meant to be initially limited, it is not meant to be limited in the long term.


      And guys, as Sam said, this was more of an experiment than anything else. I didn't get either of the giveaways as well, but I managed to trade only pokemon that I got in previous mystery gifts for a shiny litwick by simply paying attention to the trade requests of other trainers. You just need to keep trying. It also helps to search for the non-shiny versions, as they are becoming more and more numerous.


      My final point is that the giveaway pokemon, like the mystery gifts, are bonuses. They are in no way intended to be necessary to complete the game. Moreover, without the giveaways, you'd have to wait much longer to get the pokemon than if you simply missed the giveaways but they still happened. So even with missing the giveaways, your situation is better than before. Thus I wouldn't feel too bad about missing them, and I suggest that the aren't as horrible as you might think.

    77. If I had to guess I'd say the server has been over populated and can't handle the load. The game's popularity has exceeded it's funding and development team's ability to cope. Give Sam a break.

      and the code thing isnt fair, people using many accounts, time zone differances, and time of starting(ie late night early morning) makes its unfair to alot of people, maybe do per day, or 1 pair per account(have it do an IP check or somthing to sort out cheaters), because you cant realy trade for them, people asking for level 100s or ryquaza for lv1 egg hatched :(

    91. Beldum is winning, with Aron in second place, while Klink is lagging far behind. The sad part is, this doesn't surprise me. My suggestion is, Sam, maybe you should occasionally do Mystery Gift polls that include some of the contestants from previous polls that got very little in the way of votes. Klink, Trubbish, Shuppet, that sort of thing.

    92. Not all people do that. As I said, I managed to find a trade that required merely a shiny chimchar (previous mystery gift, I had 6), and a zorua. Besides, you can get shiny starters or shiny other pokemon by breeding if you simply have the female non-shiny version. Use a shiny father (shouldn't be hard with all these mystery gifts), and use the shiny incenses. It may take a while, but you have a rather decent chance of the baby being shiny. You just need to be persistent. Does not take real money.

    93. Sam, I thought of a way to make Sand Arena work. Make it similar to Roar/ Whirlwind, in that it only works once on any target. So, if a grounded target reached the edge of a map, Sand Arena activates to keep it in/ turn around, but it doesn't activate the second time that happens to the same target. Another way you could do it is for Sand Arena to make the target "flinch" for a duration of time. Perhaps half the time it takes for the target to go from one end of the map to another? I hope you like my ideas.

    95. Hey, Sam, just want to run an idea by you as far as transferring goes. How about, make it so transferred Pokemon can keep any moves they have that are in the game, and just forget the ones that aren't in the game yet? And of course, if a Pokemon's entire moveset consists of moves you haven't added to the game yet, then it does what it does for everything currently and just gives it its base level 1 movepool. Again, it's just an idea, just wanted to see if you think it might work.

    104. Hello Sam ! Not sure if you read my comment in the other blog post, so here it is.

      As much as I can see, there are no required number of badges for Pokémon transferring from PTD to PTD2 (please correct me if I am wrong). Wouldn't it be better if this feature was available after some number of badges are earned ? Or maybe after completing an event, like the Game Corner in PTD which was enabled when the player had completed a certain level ?

      Moreover, I think that, at this point of the game, there must be an event that, after it has been completed, would give the hero the ability to run. The game has become big enough to have a running feature.

      I think you should do something about the in-game money. For now, we can't gain any and it isn't useful. Maybe you should put an in-game Item store to buy potions, healing items, etc. I know PokéMarts are supposed to be closed right now, so maybe a sort of character that will sell items ?

      The giveaway events are nice, even though some players will complain (I totally understand why, everyone wants to have all the available Pokémon). To the players : don't worry, you will get all these Pokémon in time and place, whether it is in the game or after their lucky owners have bred them to exchange them (note : no, I haven't got any of the giveaway Pokémon, do not ask for one).

      I like the new ways of donating (like watching a video). It is simple and everyone can do it. I sincerely hope that you will achieve your $50,000 goal.

      As always, I love what you're doing, I love PTD, I love PTD2 and I would most certainly love Cosmoids ! Keep up the good work !

But I can't donate to you, one thing that I would like to suggest to cosmoids is instead of doing levels, you can choose which town or city you want to go to and then you can mover around the city doing levels there and quests as well as enter your house and things like that. You can still have movies in the levels and certain points of the game like this and you can explore more and have multiplayer. I look forward to future versions to the games you make! Thanks!

    119. Aggron is pure metallic epicness! He also has a good combo between moves and abilities like Double Edge with Rock Head (120 damage with no recoil) or Heavy Slam with Heavy Metal (Double Weight = More damage and with this ability only Groudon and Giratina have are heavier than him).

    127. I agree. Both giveaways i was sleeping, and now to get even an eggy of luvdisc or litwick you have to give extremely rare shinys and even shadows pokemon to have one. I dont think it's that fair. It would be nice if the giveaway is limited for a day or 12 hours, even 5 hours! That way you give the chance for people around the globe to get at least one female to breed.

    131. Another alternative could be, instead of making these limited giveaway Pokemon that place 2nd on the list of pokemon people want... Perhaps make them the same as the normal weekly mystery gift but with a Unique move set or ability.

      Or perhaps have the limited ones be non-shiny so they won't be considered so valuable in the eyes of most traders.

Hey Sam, I'm reporting a bug(?) -- in a wild Ledyba wave, whenever a Ledyba with the abilty Rattled is hit by Night Shade, all others in the wave with this ability is affected, even when they are too far away to be hit. I know this because I put one Duskull in the farthest tower square yet even a Ledyba who had just entered the field had its abilty triggered. It seemed only Night Shade had this effect because I tried it with Astonish and the Ledybas behaved normally (not very sure tho').

      Haven't had time to look at the Cosmoids Early Alpha yet. Later perhaps. :)

Sam, please dont limit beldum for only 500, each of your past giveaway was during a time when i was sleeping, and metagross is my favorite non-legendary pokemon. like mentioned before, maybe you can limit it for only one day instead of a week for the normal mystery gift. another way could be that you can do it like past mystery gift codes, that you cant use the code as often as you want. you will only be able to use the code 1 time and then get three beldum. please think about it :)
